Hi I'm new to the site and a new cat mommy :) my little Daisy is a rescue and seven months old. I just brought her home today and it took her about four hours to pee in her litterbox. She has been eating very well and drinking really well and now it's been twelve hours and she hasn't pooped and I'm getting a little worried. Is that normal? Is she just nervous? I have the litterbox in the bathroom and I have taken her to it tons of times even after she peed. Any advice would be great. She seems to like to be close to me and I noticed she won't really venture in the washroom alone yet. I happened to be in there when she peed. Not sure what to do. People tell me that she will go when she has to and won't mess in the house. I feel like a new mom with a newborn baby and I have no clue what I'm doing! Help :)

Nothing to worry about.  Most cats with a normal food intake poop once a day, give or take.  But stress can change the normal body rhythms and she might go a couple of days.  It's best if she is in a small enough area that you can be sure she's finding and using the litter box; it sounds like she has at least peed in it, right?

Is she spayed, by the way?  She's at an age where she definitely should be.

Hi and welcome

lt sounds like you're way ahead of the game, given that she's eating, peeing, and getting close to you all on the first day. lt can take days for the new owner to even see the cat until they feel comfortable/hungry enough to come out of hiding.

Do you have her confined to a limited area until she becomes used to her new home? l always start new kitties in my bedroom and walk-in closet. The food and bed in the closet so it has somewhere to withdraw to, and the litter goes by the closet door so it can find it easily.

l'm pretty sure her litter habits will be normal once she has to go.

Congratulations on the new kitty

Hi, welcome to TCS!  Usually mine go the opposite way and get diarrhea the first day home from the shelter.  I agree that you may want to confine her at first, just until she gets used to your home.
