Hi guys,

I usually give my kitten a Whiskas wet food. I know its a bit low quality but for now thats the best food that i could get for her. Soon im going to give her Orijen dry food.

But recently, since my housemate just adopt a new kitten, and fed her with Iams dry food, now my kitten tend to eat that rather than her favourite wet food. Ive done my research, and i know its a good quality food, but i after knowing all the experiments stuff that they done to kitten, i just dont want to be part of it. But my kitten somehow loves Iams rather than her favourite wet food.

Shud i just let her eat Iams, or shud i stop her from doing that?

Thanks!

Wet food is always healthier for a cat then dry. Even Whiskas wet. Try to feed her the wet before the other cat gets fed the dry.

It may be best to change both kitties over to all wet (best case scenario) or if not, at least to a higher quality dry food. You are absolutely right about the testing with Iams, but not only that it is not as high quality as it seems - contains a lot of byproducts and grains! If going to all wet food and you need a lower cost alternative, stick with Whiskas and Friskies pate flavors. Avoid the sliced and shredded varieties (these usually contain wheat gluten). The lowest quality wet food is better than the highest quality dry food, and for one reason: moisture! Cats have a low thirst drive and need to get most of their water intake from the food they eat. If you need to stick with dry food, Orijen is good, as well as Taste of the Wild, EVO and Wellness.

Veterinarians these days recommend that cats eat wet food. My vet considers dry food a necessary evil to keep their teeth healthy, but the dry food is loaded with carbs and that's why there are so many overweight cats these days. I give mine a very small bit of dry food at night, but otherwise, they're on the "Catkins" diet!
