I am so sorry for your loss. One of my friends had a cat pass away in his sleep that was around the same age as yours.  He did not have any health issues.  She did talk with her vet at the time and he thought that the cat could have had a heart attack.  Her cat was also very healthy.  Please do not beat yourself up over this.

It is also possible that your baby had a stroke while he was asleep.   Once again there is nothing you could have done differently.

These losses with no warning hurt a lot.  I had to have a fifteen year old cat put to sleep due to a stroke.  He was perfectly fine the day before and my hubby came home and found him hiding in our closet.  The cat could not walk more than a few steps on his own and could not go to the bathroom or eat. I rushed him to the vet but there was nothing that could be done so I had to make the difficult decision to put my baby to sleep.

You did everything you could to try to save your baby.  Sometimes the ones we love the most are taken from us for reasons we will never understand or know.  I wish I could reach through my computer and give you a hug.  It is normal to feel lost and depressed after what you have just been through. Please give yourself the time to grieve for your baby and allow your mind to process all the emotions you are feeling.

Hopefully someone else will come along soon with some other explanation.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It could very well have been sudden heart failure or a stroke, and I suppose the only consolation is that he didn't have to suffer from a long and debilitating disease. RIP, little one.

I am so sorry for your loss..I know all too well how they are here one minute and gone the next....I lost my Taco 2 weeks ago today, he was an 8 1/2 yr old maine coon/calico and the sweetest lil guy! I thought he had allergies...turns out he had CRF and I didnt even know it...I am heartbroken ....I was clueless to signs and symptoms etc...so i learned a lot of cat info the last 10 days...seems heartworms are a big killer in perfectly normal cats....and those lil furballs are so GOOD at hiding illness...

anyhow, not saying this was indeed the situation...just saying I KNOW how you feel ...dying was the easy part, its us continuing to live without them thats so hard....just rest in the fact that he had a great life full of love with you and he passed on in his home where he felt safe and you were blessed to not have had to witness his passing or God forbid make the terribly difficult decision I dont envy anyone having to make and have him put down due to a terminal illness....

I miss Taco like crazy and it killed me when the vet called to say he stroked out when they were shaving his chest for the chest tap....but it would have killed me worse to have had him make it thru the tap to be no better and Id be left with the gut wrenching decision to end his life because we just cant let these loves of our lives suffer...rest in the knowledge it was very quick and something that serious you wouldnt want to drag on for months....

again I am soooo very sorry for your loss...

RIP Taco(bell) 9-21-12

Im glad you realize this....YOU were number 1 in your furkids life too, theres no magic words I can type to heal your pain..if I could I would type them over and over for you, and myself...

have you considered adopting a new furkid? there are so many wonderful cats out there that need a home, that have never known the type of love YOU can give and have given so freely, some cats will die in a shelter without ever knowing someone like you and me and the other great folks of this site....

i swore I was done with animals when Taco passed!!! When AK passes we were gonna be done, yeah ...that didnt work too well as we adopted Soxy a week ago today, which is a whole other story in itself...lol

let your furlikds legacy live on in all that love for animals in you and let it shine when the time is right for you to adopt again!! make yourself and another kitty very happy again, you deserve that!

Hang in there honey!
