I've been helping the local population of feral cats here in the small town I live in for many years now. I've usually had luck getting my rehabbed kittens placed in forever homes through an organization in a nearby town, but I believe that this option has dried up. I don't think they can or are willing to help me anymore. The area of Texas I live in is...to be blunt: small, uncultured, very backward and extremely uncaring about the welfare of animals. The life of a feral cat here is short and brutal, and many of the cats are scarred both physically and mentally.
I have one beautiful male kitten, red tabby, DSH, unneutered, about 14-16 weeks (I have no idea how old exactly), he is litter trained, healthy, clear eyes and nose, very active (a little precocious. He was a quite feral in the beginning and it took me about 2 weeks of working with him outside before he'd even let me scruff him to take him inside. Everyday working with him and letting him be around my cats, handling him, loving him, and exposing him to normal life has brought him to the point of being much easier to handle. He is still skittish though and will hide when afraid. I know how hard it is to find forever home for these guys. There are so many babies out there in need of a home. Do you know of anyone, or a group or organization (Good People Only) who can help me place him, and other kittens? I'm trying like the dickens to move out of this part of Texas and I'm trying to save as many of these cats as I can before I leave.
I'm willing to drive pretty decent distances in order to get the kitten to a good, safe place and safe people.
Thank You,
Amber
