Hello everyone. New here.
My wife and I recently adopted a 1.5 year old cat from a graduate student where I work. A little background. I AM NOT A CAT person. Just not my cup of tea. Well, my wife and I have two small kids, ages 2 and 3. The kids love a show on TV called Caillou and this kid has a cat named Gilbert. Well, they started asking for us to get them a Gilbert. Next thing I know, my wife calls saying she has the opportunity to adopt this cat and really wants to bring him home. I was a little reluctant as part of my reason for not being fond of cats is my allergies to them usually. But, kids come first right?
I come home and my wife greets me with this cat... My first reactions, he's really a pretty guy. He has semi long hair and is grey and white in color. The thing that struck me was how ridiculously soft he is, almost like rabbit fur. For the next couple of days, as predicted, he stayed pretty much in hiding, especially with our loud, noisy little ones.
Fast forward a week and a half. OK, this cat is completely out of its mind! He didn't take long to come out of his shell. He loves play time, usually chasing a stick or other "kitty type things". I'm finding his favorite thing is to ambush you while you least expect it, attacking whatever moves on you. He loves to attack your hand, bite and wrestle. He does not bit hard at all and its just play biting. He usually finishes up with some licks and head rubs on your hand. Oh, the best part.. he loves to chase you and attack your feet! He's not declawed, but he doesn't really use his claws.
We've had him for about a month now and I can honestly say, this stupid cat is growing on me. ;-) He likes me and follows me everywhere. Play time is ALL the time to him. He's very entertaining and fun to have around. For some reason, this cat doesn't stir up my allergies like a lot of them do, so its another win for me and him.
I still am a dog person at heart, but I can honestly say, I really like this cat. He has to have the funnest personality I've ever come across in a cat.
Oh yeah... of course his name is Gilbert... lol
