I think it's a bit soon to write anything, because it would take a lot of words to describe what this cat has meant to me,to my husband, to all who met him. But I want to say something.
We lost Dee on Sunday, and it is one of the few times I've seen my husband cry. Dee was from a litter born not long after we were married, near the end of my showing American Curls. We did show Dee as a kitten - even went to Canada several times..we have many cherished memories of those times. One highlight would be the time we woke up to find him fast asleep between us in the hotel bed, on his back, all 4 legs splayed, snoring away happily.
Those on the forum who've known me a long time, will remember my talking about Patrick (a several-time great-grand-father of Dee's) - who was my first American Curl male of a very small breeding progam I had (long since retired). Dee was the last American Curl boy we had and the simularities were downright freaky. He pouted the way Patrick did, got a stubborn look on his face the same way Patrick did, was outgoing and charismatic..he expected everyone to like him, and they did. He was a wonderful ambassador for the breed..just like Patrick was.
Like Patrick, I had an intensive session of being mom/nurse (I handfed Patrick for over a year when he was in his later years), we had our routine down though - meds and inhaler am and pm, and in between..good wet food, scratching pole sessions, naps in the sun. Dee even began (I always held him in my arms like a baby to pill him) to turn his head towards my hand with the pill and open his mouth..I kid you not.
Pill time was me enjoying the wonderful feel of him in my arms, hearing him purr.
I am really, really missing holding him.
I know he is with Patrick, his Mom, his auntie Alix, his brother roo who passed away several years ago, and I dearly look forward to seeing him again.
