Hey All,

My oldest cat recently passed, and I adopted a new kitten into the family soon after.  When he came home, he had a slightly crusty eye, but they told me he got litter in his eye so I didnt pay attention to it.  However, it turns out he had FHV, and it spread to my other cat as well.  Both of them are now over it, however, when searching for a higher quality cat food, I came across Blue Buffalo, which has L-Lysine in it, to help stop flare ups of FHV.  The problem is, its been weeks and my kitten continues to have diarrhea, very watery, every time he goes.  I had a free bag of Wellness Core that I finished up before switching to the blue buffalo, and he seemed fine on that.  Could he be allergic to the oatmeal in the blue buffalo? I'm not sure what else to think.  When on the Wellness, both of their eyes started to water again.  After switching to the blue buffalo, it again stopped (I attribute the L-Lysine in the blue buffalo to this?).

So, what should I do, get some Wellness Core and a lysine supplement? Im looking for the most cost effective option.

Thanks for any advice

Did-you-switch-cold-turkey,or-transistion-change-of-food-over-2-weeks?

Kittens-that-have-diarea-need-to-be-seen-by-a-vet,and-an-x-ray-taken,to-see-if-there-is-inflammation-in-their-intestines,and-most-likely-put-on-metronidazole.

I-feed-Blue-Wilderness,I-highly-recommend-it.

Which-BW-are-you-feeding?For-how-long?

BW-does-not-have-that-much-Lyinesine-in-it,give-a-Lysine-supplement,kittens-would-get-250-mgs-once-a-day,adult-cat-under-9lbs-250-mgs-once-a-day,over-9lbs-twice-a-day.

You-can-get-it-in-the-human-vitamin-section,smush-up-the-pills-into-a-powder-and-mix-with-wet-feed,about-1/2,3.0-oz-can,mix-real-well.

Are-you-feeding-the-kitten-anything-else,other-than-BW?

I am feeding Blue Buffalo Wilderness Duck (the green bag).  I "switched" cold turkey, because I have no idea what he was eating before I got him.  The person I got him from did not know, as he was being fostered by someone else.  Hes been on it for over a month now, and still has diarrhea.  Other than the blue buffalo, they get the occasional can of friskies patte (poultry flavored ones).  When I first got him, he was eating the remainder of the Wellness Core I was giving to my other cat.  He seemed to have more solid stools on that, but he only ate it a few times.

When I first got my kitten he had a runny nose and eyes. A few days on blue buffalo and it went away. I also think it was the l-lysine. I changed them to a wet diet and added Enisyl- F (L-Lysine supplement for cats). They sell it at the vet or on-line. It is a flavored gel that my cats ate like a treat. One pump is the correct measured amount. The cheapest way is to buy l-lysine capsules at the pharmacy and sprinkle them onto their food. They might not like the taste though. I would definately get him off Blue if it gives him diarrhea.
