Odd dilemma

One of the places I order cat food from always sends a small bag of Temptations tuna treats. Now, this is not something I would EVER give any of my cats. Not just because it's "tuna", though that would be enough, but because I don't feed my cats that kind of "treat".

I've been saving them though..thinking I could drop them at the shelter next time I bring food over, or include them in a package when I send someone in need some cat food, or donate them to the food pantry, another place I sometimes bring cat food.

But...here's the dilemma. I think these things are awful, and I wouldn't want any cat eating them. But on the other hand, if it was a case of these or nothing, at least the cat would have something. But ..how can I pass something like this on to a cat, knowing how I feel about them?

These little bags are piling up and I am still no closer to what to do with them. I want to throw them away, I really do. But...would that be wrong?

Hun, shelters usually can't afford to feed food we'd want to see cats eating. I think "food" - ALMOST whatever it is - is more important for so many in need. :heart2: I'd put my knowledge of the quality aside, and donate them to the shelter. :rub:

I know you are right about food, they take what they can get. What they get from me is canned foods that didn't go over well, here. (since I am always trying new ones, and since I order on line by the case, I usually have plenty to donate lol)

But these are treats, not food. My worry is that they'll send them home with new adoptees, and the human won't know how awful they are, will see the cat devour them, and another addict will be created. I can't live with that kind of responsibility. :(

Perhaps you could give them to someone who takes care of Ferals?

I'm sure they wouldn't use them as a "food supply" but either as a treat,

or maybe mix them in with their regular food.

A shelter might be able to use them to get picky cats to at least try an unfamiliar food or to lure a new resident out of hiding.

Hmmm... A rescue group or shelter as others have suggested would be more than happy to take them.  Are you handy in the artsy craftsy thing?  I'm sure if you're not there is someone out there that might make use of them in that area.  Those creative and talented folks will mold those treats, glue them and shellac them until they shine and look really cool in something they've made.  Heck, maybe they could even make holiday ornaments out of 'em ... Just a thought
