My daughter's cat,  Penny, who was 6 years old and never sick one day passed away last night.  It was so sudden,  we are all in a state of shock.   She was an inside only cat, but would go outside for a few minutes a day with my daughter.  They went out last evening,  she was in the yard,  my daughter called to her and a few minutes later she was on the porch,  already gone.  She was up to date on all shots,  and had been for her yearly check up in August.

Has anyone heard of a cat with no history of illness just passing away so suddenly?  We are just devastated over losing her so quickly.

I mean it could happen...I know it sounds not so pleasent, but you could have a necropsy done on her to find out why she passed so suddenly.  So sorry for your loss

My condolences. She may have had an undiagnosed heart condition, and a stroke could also happen at any age. RIP, Penny.

OH hun!!!!!!! I am so very sorry about your daughter's cat, :rbheart: Penny. How very shocking and traumatic that must have been. I am thinking heart too :shame: If she ate something, I don't think it would have happened so suddenly. Your daughter would have seen her having some sort of reaction first, I would think. So very sorry and sending my deepest condolences. :hugs: :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes:

The same thing happened to one of my friends.  She had young healthy adult black cat.  He was indoors only and had just had a vet check up a few weeks before.  Her cat passed away in his sleep one day.  She went to wake him up for breakfast and he was gone.  It took me a while to convince her that it was not her fault.  She traveled a lot for work and I checked on her cats everyday and would spend a few hours hanging out with him.  When she tried to blame herself I told her that it was my fault instead since I spent a lot of time around her cat.  I never actually blamed myself but when she thought I did she stopped blaming herself.  We actually hung out the next day and mourned the loss together.  I helped her explain to her remaining kitty what happened because he was running around crying for his buddy.  I spent a lot of extra time hanging out with her kitty right after while she was out town shortly after this happened.  I figured out how to distract him with toys and treats when he was looking for his friend.  I spent extra time brushing him and let him cuddle with me as much as he wanted.  I was unemployed when this happened so the first time she went out of town I spent more time during the day with her cat making sure he was ok then I did at home.

I'm so sorry for your daughter's loss of Penny, how awful. My first thought is heart. Heart problems are extremely difficult to detect sometimes. I'm so sorry.
