Ok seriously heres the deal. My main Coon Sasha needed emergency surgery thrusday she almost died from a pyle. Monday(today) i got her this pain killer cause she was doing alot of complaining. About an hour after I gave it it made her super mean. She started attacking the other animals in the house biting and big time fighting and she bit me in the hand drawing blood. My cats are now afraid of her and keeping there distance. She may just be in pain and tired and thats why she is acting crazy, but I dont know what to do has anyone else had this problem?

It's difficult to predict how a cat will react to pain medicine.

However, I want to ask you how you administered the buprenex, because if it isn't done correctly, it will have had no effect, and it could very well be pain causing her to act this way. Vets often neglect to describe the correct method for administering this pain med

Also, keep in mind that she has been through a lot and is not feeling herself, with or without pain meds. But, even after saying all that, it is quite possible that she had a bad reaction to the pain med, and you might want to call the vet and ask for something else. Turbogesic or tramadol would be my second and third choices.

Welcome to TCS, though I am sorry it is your kitty's pain that has brought you here.

The only time l've had to administer Buprenorphine (200mcg/ml .14ml) was to Bretten when he was a kitten. He was chasing a fly on the counter, fell off the stove, and l thought he'd broken his back leg. lt swelled like crazy, but x-rays showed nothing, and eventually the swelling went down.

Anyway, he was given a bunch of tiny syringes of this stuff that l had to give him, and it knocked him out completely. He was a very high-strung active kitten, and all he did on this stuff was sleep. l took pix of him to send the vet because his pupils were dilated and he was in a stupor.

Conversely, the only time l've seen a cat be aggressive out of character was when it had another cats claw embedded its skin and had gone septic. Sepsis can hurt a cat very quickly, and if it were my cat, l would call the vet to see what they think.

l hope she feels better soon :)

I give it to her thru a syringe in the mouth as told by the vet to give. she is fine if i am sitting next to her but once I leave its game on and she throws the house up for grabs. She could be in pain still she is jumping and stuff and we are having a hard time getting her to stop and she could jsut be tired of the other cats smelling her and wants to be left alone. But these are brutal fights...

In the mouth, but not down the throat, right? Okay.

She could be having a strange reaction to it. The surgery was Thursday, so did all this ruckus just start with the pain medicine, or have they all been upset with each other since the surgery?

Remember that she doesn't smell like herself so it's quite possible the other cats don't even recognize her. But I wouldn't give her any more of the buprenorphine and I would call the vet about her reaction.

I did call and they said to lock her up away from the other animals that this will make her loopy :( she walked around crying sat and sun and today is just a bad day its the first day she is going after everyone including the dogs. The vet said if she stays mean we will have to discuss other options... :( I Think I will down the does to 1ml not 2 and see if that helps and keep her locked away when i am not home
