Hi all,

I've written before about the cats who live outside my apartment's dumpster in the woods. Previously, there were about 20 cats out there, as best I could tell. I did manage to TNR some of them, but someone that lives here called Animal Control on them a few months ago, and now there's much fewer. :( (I had a talk with the apartment manager about it... she was just as devastated as I was.)

Anyway.... there are still a few little babies out there. Including one who I haven't trapped yet.

I think she is a girl, since she doesn't have the chubby tomcat cheeks. She is a beautiful petite little classic tabby girl (boy?) who is there most of the time when I take out the trash.

But, man, she MEOWS. And meows and meows and meows. Not loud. Just constantly, until you give her some food. I'm not sure if she only meows at me and DH or at everyone who comes to take out the trash. I suppose she could be calling to her mom? But no cat ever comes to her. And once she gets done eating, she goes back to standing or sitting nervously and meowing. I guess she could be signaling the dinner bell to the other ferals. :lol3:

The other thing is, she lets me get much closer than the other ferals do. Lots of folks around here feed these cats, so I'm not sure if it's that she's just used to us now, or if she's a stray and was somebody's baby once. But she'll let me get within a foot and a half of her while she's eating her canned food off of a paper plate. She won't let me touch her, though, and is wary of extended arms.

I haven't been able to get a good look at her backside (I see her almost entirely at night), so I don't know for sure what she is. But I plan to get her TNR'd as soon as I can.

Anyone know what to make of the meowing? Could she be a stray and a candidate for re-socialization?

A   candidate for socialization is  she, whichever she is a stray or not.

So if you can and want to put down the work, you dont need to know the exact answer.    :)

It is possible that she is so used to people coming around knowing they are a source of food that she is unexpectedly becoming socialized little by little. Either way, I agree with Stefan, she is a great candidate for becoming someone's pet kitty. I hope that is the case with this one. Good luck, hun, as always. :heart3: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
