I found fleas on both cats yesterday. Totally indoor cats. I was petting Mac and saw something move in his eyebrow. I checked all over him but couldnt see anything (hes black with light gray underneath). So I checked Mia, starting in the same place (her eyebrow area). I saw movement again. It jumped when I tried to get it off..

When I lived in the upstairs apt ( I moved to a down stairs apt, same building, after my stroke in July) I never thought about them sitting in the windows like upstairs. I'm sure thats how they have gotten the fleas though. I dont get my SSDI check until Wednesday so I cant even start treatment until then as I dont even have a penny until then. I am on a VERY limited budget due to being on SS disability. I already am cutting it tight this month due to getting Mac nuetered. Treatment is going to be a real srtetch. I cant delay Macs nueter though as he will be 5 months the middle of the month. I have had to treat for fleas a few years ago so I understand how to do it but wonder if anyone has any money saving tricks that work. Also, which works best, Advantage or Frontline. Your experiance with either or both would be appretiated. I will be going to the city (70 miles from where I live which is a rural community of 1,900) on Wednesday to get supplies for the month. I will be able to visit a Pet Supplies Plus and a Petco so I need the advice on what to get while there that works but will save money too. I am so overwhelmed right now thinking about how to get by this month but you got to do what you got to do!  :)

Thanks!!!

Hmm. Just a quick tip - fleas don't like apple cider vinegar...maybe that could help as a substitute until you can get ahold of a treatment?

Anyone with opinions on Advantage 2 vs. Frontline Plus as I need to get one on Wednesday?

l'm a fan of Advantage over Revolution, but l've never used Frontline.

We got a kitten that gave his bedroom/saferoom a nasty infestation once, and Advantage did the trick for us quickly.

I have always put Revolution on my cat and Frontline on my dog.  No issues but Ive also heard that Frontline Plus is good.  Also I heard Dawn dishsoap works well for fleas (and makes them smell good).

Choices, choices, choices!           i'm still not sure what to do. I live in West Central IL. It gets very humid here and I'm not far from the IL river. My cats are totally indoor cats but they got fleas anyway.  I'm not sure how weather might effect these different types of flea populations and meds. My cats are really starting to itch now. I wish I would have been able to start this process Monday. Tomarrow morning I will be going to the city to get spplies for this month and will have to get the meds then. I have to use my money wisely as I live off $735 disability a month. But we all have to be healthy! I found out Pet Supplies Plus has a 20% off flea treatment right now. So I will be checking it out. I just need to decide before I get there. I'm so confused!!!

You can't go wrong with any of the three mentioned above - they do and will work.

Please don't be deceived into buying the cheaper OTC stuff, because not only are a lot of them toxic to cats (even some of the ones made for cats), but they don't work either.

I dont mean to get into your business, but if you dont mind me asking, where are you getting your kitty fixed?  I am in Ohio and we have spay and neuter clinics and they charge like $20 for a cat neuter.  Just a thought to help you save some money.
