We had started taking down cabinets a few weeks ago. So yesteday, we started tearing out the pantry closet in the kitchen. It didn't go as badly as we thought it would, although it was messy with all the drywall pieces. We still need to move the fridge to tear out the remaining closet wall and then that will be done. We'd work a bit, then sweep and then vacuum. The cats kept coming into the kitchen to investigate things, so we tried to keep everything as clean as we could. We also removed the cabinet above the fridge while we were at it. When we were done, I did a final vacuum and then washed the kitchen floor. (I was worried about the cats stepping through pieces of drywall and then cleaning their feet. And we couldn't keep the cats out of there. We tried!! Even Muffin had to check things out....I tried to get a picture of Tabby and Muffin on the ladder at the same time.) And now, by tearing out the closet, we have lumber to work with to frame the larger window in the kitchen, so we've saved a little money there.

Now we definitely start living out of totes. Without that closet, there's no place to store foodstuffs. I have pasta boxes and cans of cat food on and in the hutch. Food storage bags and such. Tabby's boxes of Frosted Shredded Wheat.
The jars of flours, sugar, tea bags, etc. are on the hutch, too. (I packed the hutch's normal contents into storage, so that we could use it for food products.) It's going to be interesting around here.

My paint expert (my sister) came over to see how things were going....She looked at our Wall of Paint Samples
and she also agreed that the Light Sage paint would be the way to go. It's one of those colors that tends to change with the light, so til she got there late afternoon, it was almost bluish more so than sage-y. She went back to the bedroom to check out the color. That's what we're going with. Whew! That's decided!

Now the contractor thinks he might be able to get here next Monday. I have off work for the Columbus Day holiday, so that would work out perfectly.

This made me laugh:
Tabby's boxes of Frosted Shredded Wheat.
It sounds like some real progress is being made, though I guess it doesn't always feel that way with things not in their proper places.

Well, it's true....those are Tabby's boxes of cereal! She loves her Frosted Shredded Wheat.

We received tentative shipping for the cabinets....next Friday! Oct 12th is when they're supposed to be at Rick's work. We have to rent a truck to get them all home (still cheaper than paying for shipping, which we didn't have to do as long as they were shipped to Rick's work).

So that means, we have to step on it now. I knew that would happen. Wait, wait, wait, and then OMG the cabinets are in and we're behind!

Cabinet installation will tentatively be sometime the week of Oct 22 with granite templating to be the week of Oct 29. (Those are tentative, but at least it's something)

We're going to finish stripping down the kitchen this weekend.

The contractor comes next week for window and tunnels installation (we have to stain the window, too).

Electrician is coming back next week to do the wiring for the lighting atop the cabinets and between cabinets and countertops and for the new china cabinet area.

Plumber coming in to do the water line for the pot filler at the stove.

Then all drywall repair.

Then the painting, which also includes the ceiling in the kitchen, living room, foyer and hallway (it's all one big ceiling, so it almost all has to be done now).

And then the cabinets and countertop with the new sink and faucet.

I'm going to have (most of) my kitchen by Thanksgiving!
(If it all works out, that is)

Backsplash and new flooring next year....I'm out of money.

All this sounds like so much fun.  When you get finished, we will look for pictures.
