Hi Everyone
So I talked to my vet and it turned out I had been way overfeeding Smokie & Bandit- and the vet has informed me to feed them the amount of their target weight (Smokie, 13 pounds and Bandit 11 Pounds).......... I was feeding them enough for their current weight, and was told that would only maintain current weight......
So I finally cut them down to the right amount for their target weight, and they are PO'd! They get fed 1/3 cup a day--- which is what the vet said to do, according to the bag instructions, for a 10% calorie reduction and weight loss........
So my problem is, Daily they are trying to open the cat food bucket (We keep a large trash can with a lid to put the food in) and use 1/3 cup measuring scoop every morning. They get fed once a day, that is what the vet said- and that is what we are doing.
I don't know if they are hungry, or just food addicts that know the food is there............ Anything I can do to make them not keep opening the trashcan lid??? I have heavy books on top right now, but my bigger concern is- Am I starving them, or are they just crying because they aren't getting their way.???
We feed Purina One, Indoor Formula
I know Purina has a bad reputation, we have never had any problems- it isn't the cheapest, but we can't afford high dollar food either.
Thanks for all input!!
Mel
