Ransom has not been eating as of yesterday, puking up his water and I noticed his BM is full of mucus.

Vet ruled out anything with organs with blood work today, gave him an injection for settling his stomach and sent me home with oral meds for puking and diarrhea. I'm worried to death still... He's 11Mos old and has never even puked till this.

He's fighting an ongoing battle with ear mites and tapeworms as he was infested so badly when I got him.

The only things that have changed around this time was.

1. Bought a cat grass plant and planted it in the Lowe's potting mix ( His first time with cat grass) He ate from it often.

2. Bought a new cat litter made from walnuts and filled one of the boxes with it.

3. I replaced the cat water fountain with a new filter.

He's around 11mo old

Indoor only

Has had blood work done today that ruled out organ problems/ diabetes

Tested for FLV and FIV

The vet didn't think worms would cause this.

He drinks purified water out of his pet fountain and has been eating Blue Buffalo Basics for the past 3mos as he refuses all wet food.

I'm kind of lost here and would love to hear any similar experiences any of you have had.

I'm afraid something may have been passed up at the vet.

Thank you.

Update - He has now puked up green liquid @ 12am

I also just realized the cat grass I planted was in a potting mix with fertilizers. Could it be that possibly caused this?

Is he projectile vomiting right after he drinks water?
Could he gotten to something he wasn't supposed to eat? Could this kitten be blocked? Did the vet do an x-ray to check for blockages?
What happens if you try to feed him? Have you tried to warm up the food for him? Feed him treats? Fancy feast? Deli meat? Anything at all?
If he is projectile vomiting, my fear is blockage.... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Vomiting seems like reg vomiting, vet did no xrays. Drinks very little water..won't eat anything yet.

Went pee very little and just had a bm that was very thin liquid, you could hear it coming out with gas followed by a big glob of mucus that I picked apart with exam gloves. Seemed to contain a bunch of hair and some long pieces of cat grass, along with some bits of pink mushy stuff here and there. The BM smells so strong it burns your nose like ammonia or something. I'm so worried. I'm not sure of anything he could of gotten into.

Have you taken away the cat grass? I would do that straight away if you haven't. The cat grass itself can be irritating to the digestive system and also can cause kitties to vomit. Since it can irritate the digestive system, I wonder if that is also why he has diarrhea and gas? the pink mushy stuff could be due to irritation--not sure--could be partially digested food?

It could be that the cat grass, since he has been eating a lot of it, has caused irritation and inflammation to his digestive system and that is why he has the mucus-y poo/diarrhea and vomiting, including the bile he's now vomiting.

Not sure if you're into treating with alternative means, but I love the herb Slippery Elm Bark (SEB) for these types of situations because it is very healing. SEB coats and soothes, so it may be help him. If you are interested, just let me know and I can tell you how to make the "syrup" from bulk powder or powder from capsule form of SEB. Just thought I'd put this out there.

Has he been tested for giardia? (Can cause mucus in poo, but so can digestive upset.)

Tossed the cat grass, new litter and cleaned water fountain again when I got home.

Got his anti diarrhea med down him last night and after an hour and a half of trying finally his anti vomiting meds today at 9:30AM.

Drank a little water, but still wont eat anything..two dif kinds of wet food, dry or bolied chicken.

Had a very small about teaspoon BM today was like water.

Waitng for vet to return my call.

Please pray for him.

Vet called back, going to be giving me some wet food to mix with water and force feed him today.

he's laying around sleeping a lot, got him to lick a cheap brand of cat treats around 10AM, but wouldn't eat any.

10:40AM - got the anti diarrhea med  down and it caused him to puke

Should I try baby food? If so what kind? Thanks

Did the vet administer sub-q fluids while you were there? If he's having a reaction to anything toxic, that's pretty typical to help flush him out.

I do hope you're able to assist feed him, and he's able to keep it down. :heart2: If not, I would take him back to the vet. Many vibes for you and your kitty. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :Vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

I've been going through something like this too. Not sure if you saw my thread but it sounds a lot like what you and Random are having to deal with. Started on the 8th of this month and apparently we're not out of the woods yet. Started with vomiting and mucus, now that those symptoms have stopped, we're back to loose stool and lethargy.

Really hope our babies get better. I'll keep an eye on your thread and hopefully see positive posts soon. If I actually find out whats going on over here, I'll post again and maybe it'll help.

As Laurie said, I would take him back to the vet for fluids. But first I would have them check him to see if all the cat grass he's eaten has somehow caused an obstruction (as Carolina suggested) to be sure that isn't the cause of this. An x-ray could show this. At the very least, you could rule out an obstruction/blockage. With an obstruction you might see some poo, the mucus, and diarrhea getting past it. It can also cause vomiting, inappetance, lethargy, etc. I would take him to the vet ASAP as this is life threatening. If they don't want to do this, I would insist they check this.

Also, vomiting is a kitty's mechanism for ridding their body of toxins, so I'm not keen on using an anti-vomiting med to stop this until an obstruction has been ruled out. By giving an anti-diarrhea med, it could make the problem worse if there is an obstruction.

The reason I kind of seem to be pushing the large ingestion of cat grass is because kitties bodies can't break down plant matter, so there is a possibility that it is causing problems and a blockage.

Last night my boyfriend got Ransom to eat a few treats and about a half teaspoon of his food. He texted me to tell me while I was at work because he was all I could think about.

Later that night around 11pm I got him to come to his food  and he started to eat. I actually stood as still as I could holding my breath...worried he would change his mind. When he walked away I started crying with joy. He puked once last night just clear liquid and it has not happend  again since. His BM's are more solid, but still have mucus in them. After he ate last night I decided to not give him his meds  on the chance he would puke up the little food he did eat and go back to hiding. Called the vet today and they agreed with what I had done...phew. He's still not 100%, but you can see him improving little by little. I hate that I don't know what caused this...if he ate something or what, but my boyfriend killed a scorpion in the living room while I was at work today...makes me wonder.....

I really appreciate how kind and helpful you all have been to me on this site.

it's a great feeling to have found a place that has people like me that care so deeply for their cats.

Thank you

Id like to update that Ransom has made a full recovery and I we never figured out what caused this, but I decided I could live without house plants even so called safe ones just incase and my bf  killed a scorpion in my apartment a few days after all this took place. Thank you everyone for all the help.
