Hello... I apologize for this being my first post (hi hello, my name is Mandy--sorry for the fast introduction) but I am worried.

I also apologize for how long this might be.

Okay, so Sunday night I find a little stray kitten that jumped into my arms purring and was very skinny... so I thought I'd take it home, give it a bath and feed it. I already have a four year old cat so I figured it wouldn't be too bad to bring home this stray until I found its owners. So, I go buy soft food and kitty litter, so I can separate the two (in case this kitten has FLV).

Just today two things have happened.

First, my older cat somehow managed to open the door and when I came home from work I found the two running around playing with each other. I went ahead and cleaned out his water bowl thinking the kitten might have drank from it, however, I've kept his food (as the kitten has his own kitty food ((which is much smaller for him to eat than the adult food)) so I don't think he touched his food) anyways, so I went ahead and cleaned out both of their litter boxes just in case--and this is where I am worried. I found in the kitten's litter box little spots of light colored blood on some of his feces. The first two nights I had him I would check his poop to make sure he didn't have any worms and it seemed find. He did however have some white grainy--almost sand size grains in his poop but I thought that might have been the soft food I gave him--yet today it leaves me worried.

Things are alright though considering he has an appointment tomorrow at 9AM to get checked out and shots, yet the other thing I am worried about is if he does have the FLV--will my 4 year old cat "catch" it considering his age and that he has already had his vaccine for the FLV? It has worried me since I've been home and have cleaned their stuff... I just want both of them to be okay... tomorrow morning cannot come soon enough.

Thankfully I was able to come across this forum so maybe some of you can suggest some things that might help me until tomorrow morning... this kitten is thin, thin enough where you can see his hip bone, but he has energy and he is very playful, but he does sleep quite a bit (though I'm not sure if that's out of boredom or not, earlier when I came home he had all this energy and was very playful).

Again I am sorry if this is long.. I am just worried...I know I will get my answers tomorrow from the vet but right now the appointment just feels like a life time away so that is why I am asking so thanks a lot for reading!!!

There is fairly good evidence that adult cats are mostly immune to FeLV, and if he's also vaccinated I don't think I'd worry about short-term casual contact. If he got a deep bite or had long-term contact with a FeLV+ cat, maybe.

You might want to pick up some de-wormer for the older cat, though. It's pretty much a given that kittens have worms, and he might have picked up some worm eggs in that short time.

Hoping the Vet visit went well.  Are you going to keep the kitten, since your resident cat and the kitten already seem to be getting along?

Hello! Yes the visit went great... apparently he is healthy... I told her about the blood in his stool and she said that could be due to stress or change of eating habits and food... so they gave me some free sample of food to help him out...he still poops quite a bit but I am thinking maybe I have just forgotten how kittens are, because they said he was a good weight, however, he is at least 5 times smaller than what my first cat was at his age--because she said he is about 16 weeks or 20 weeks ... so I am to bring him back within three weeks for his other vaccines! But they said not to worry because my older cat should be immune to the virus considering he's been vaccinated... so that took a load off... and yes I am keeping him, he is too sweet for me not too and I don't think anyone else would treat him the way I do and thinking about him being with another owner who isn't half way as concerned as me is heartbreaking--so I'm going to go ahead and keep him... because I think he deserves me and vice versa and....my other cat seems to greatly enjoy his company--though he is four years old he becomes a kitten when the two begin messing about and it's too sweet :)

Thank you all once again for helping keep me sane through that... those were the longest hours ever and I was so worried but now things are good!!! :)

Congratulations on your new fur baby.  Isn't it amazing how much you love that little rascal already.  Cats can do that to you.  Good luck with your kitty.
