Hello... I apologize for this being my first post (hi hello, my name is Mandy--sorry for the fast introduction) but I am worried.

I also apologize for how long this might be.

Okay, so Sunday night I find a little stray kitten that jumped into my arms purring and was very skinny... so I thought I'd take it home, give it a bath and feed it. I already have a four year old cat so I figured it wouldn't be too bad to bring home this stray until I found its owners. So, I go buy soft food and kitty litter, so I can separate the two (in case this kitten has FLV).

Just today two things have happened.

First, my older cat somehow managed to open the door and when I came home from work I found the two running around playing with each other. I went ahead and cleaned out his water bowl thinking the kitten might have drank from it, however, I've kept his food (as the kitten has his own kitty food ((which is much smaller for him to eat than the adult food)) so I don't think he touched his food) anyways, so I went ahead and cleaned out both of their litter boxes just in case--and this is where I am worried. I found in the kitten's litter box little spots of light colored blood on some of his feces.  The first two nights I had him I would check his poop to make sure he didn't have any worms and it seemed find. He did however have some white grainy--almost sand size grains in his poop but I thought that might have been the soft food I gave him--yet today it leaves me worried.

Things are alright though considering he has an appointment tomorrow at 9AM to get checked out and shots, yet the other thing I am worried about is if he does have the FLV--will my 4 year old cat "catch" it considering his age and that he has already had his vaccine for the FLV? It has worried me since I've been home and have cleaned their stuff... I just want both of them to be okay... tomorrow morning cannot come soon enough.

Thankfully I was able to come across this forum so maybe some of you can suggest some things that might help me until tomorrow morning... this kitten is thin, thin enough where you can see his hip bone, but he has energy and he is very playful, but he does sleep quite a bit (though I'm not sure if that's out of boredom or not, earlier when I came home he had all this energy and was very playful).

Again I am sorry if this is long.. I am just worried. Thanks a lot for reading!

Hi Mandy, I am sure the little kitten has some worms, as all kittens usually do. Since the two of them were playing together ( and seems your older cat will love the new addition :D) it is possible that your older cat will have been exposed to whatever worms the kitten has. You could just de-worm both to be on the safe side. I am sure the vet will go over everything for you tomorrow. It was wonderful,of you to rescue this little baby and I do hope that he tests negative to FeLK :cross: Not much you can do about it now since they have already been together. Try not to worry, I think it will be alright :alright: Good luck at the vet and please update :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

yeah, I've been searching online about a cat that's already been vaccinated and a few others have said that past the age of 4 for a vaccinated cat it should be immune to it, least by a 15% chance.. or maybe it was 10%... I can't remember.. I was searching like crazy earlier because it had me worried. But yes, I am so happy he found me, I saw him sitting on a trailer and it was windy outside and I thought I'd get out of my car and see if it needed something... figured if it ran away it was alright on it's own but he came running up to me purring and all the like so I had to help him...so I searched for fleas and he was clean, clean ears too... so I didn't know if he belonged to someone. I checked craigslist and saw a post about a missing kitten that fit his description so I contacted them about it and arranged to meet with them the following day... so thinking I found his owners I gave him a bath and even brushed his teeth haha ... basically I gave him that over pampered treatment I give my own cat cause he's my heart... then the next day I went to the woman's house and it wasn't her cat... so I figured I'd keep him, cause at that point as heartbreaking as it was the thought of giving him away was too much :( so I knew I had to keep him... I'm just happy he is here with me cause I don't think anyone could care for him or love him the way I can so it is safe to say he will have a good life--I just hope everything turns out okay at his appointment tomorrow.. I can't bare the thought that it'll be something horrible, so thanks a lot for your reply... the thought of worm or parasites and how common they are is comforting (though that's strange to say, in this case it is haha) but I do hope he shows negative for FLV... he's litter box trained, so I know he wasn't outside for too long.. my boyfriend was saying someone could have just dropped him off that night--though for how skinny he was and dirty I'm sure he was running around for a few days... so no worries... I will let you know how the appointment goes !!

Most of  these nasty contagions smitten by wounds and  such. Ie biting into blood.  Just playing together  shouldnt  be dangerous,  unless your resident has a weakened immune system.

Licking each other? Maybe,  at  least for  Felv, which is easier to  catch,  more  contagious,  than the others.  Lets  not worry before  the vet visit  scheduled.

Her playing  at first,  and now sleeping much,  is  very  natural..    At  first she fought   to please herself  in.   NOW,  she may  at last take some rest. The  tensions lessened. She   IS   also  tired, by  being astray,  by these worms... Even  by the play  with her new friend.

Welcome to our  Forums!

Good  luck!

Hey you! Thank you for the welcome! And you're right... I just started worrying because it has been a while since I've had this small of a kitten--as my previous cat wasn't like this, because I adopted him--so he had his shots before hand--so this new one is new for me in the sense of rescuing a stray... and you're right.. I don't know how long he was outside fending for himself and now that he doesn't have to he can be lazy--so I've taken that into account. Went to the vet earlier and he is in top shape ! So that really took a load off... he got a shot and an oral shot of something banana flavor haha... he was real good... got his ears checked and it's just a little wind-dirt and the vet said that it was normal because he was outside.. she checked all his regions and everything... said the cause of blood in stool and diarrhea could be due to stress and changing of eating habits and food.. so they gave me some sample of food to help out. He's been a little out of it since his shots but I'm sure later tonight he'll be all back to himself...so I take him back in three weeks to get vaccinated and fixed!! yayy...she wasn't sure if he was 16 weeks or 20 weeks...but she said he is healthy as far as she can tell...I put a drop of that dewormer/flea stuff that they gave me on him--and his shot would also help out if he has any parasites or worms... so overall he is fine and well!! Thank you all so much for your reassuring words and help--and I am happy I found this place!!
