When I bring my outdoor cat indoors,I will be changing his diet. Right now he eats a pretty cheap dry food
. He is picky. He weighs anywhere from 10-15 pounds(big cat) and about 2 1/2 years old.

Is half a can wet in the morning with 1/3 cup dry food and the same at night a good idea? He is not fat or skinny but he is very muscular.

Not sure of what brand to switch too. I cant afford BB and my little dogs eat taste of the wild and my pitbull eats diamond naturals,i am spending a lot on dog food so I need something affordable for now that I can get from tractor supply for him.

Also, does the wet food have to be the same brand as the dry? Thanks

4Health and Diamond Naturals for cat are OK. Get the "all-life-stages" or "active cat" formulas, not the "indoor" formulas (indoor and weight loss formulas are usually higher in carbs and actually contribute to making cats fat, ironically :/. Taste of the Wild cat food doesn't cost very much more than the other 2, and if you're only feeding 1/3 cup a day the bag will last a long time.

No, the canned food definitely does not need to be the same brand as the dry. Best thing is to feed a wide variety of canned foods.

Are you feeding the wet and dry at the same time?  Mixing or keeping the wet and dry in separate containers?  Also, I didn't catch how many times you're going to feed him per day or the size can you're talking about.  If you're talking about the 3.5oz can, that is probably not enough and he'll gravitate to the dry to fill him up.  Personally I'm big on a wet diet and my cats get a 90% wet to a 10% dry daily, but that's me.  If you are feeding him the large 13oz cans of wet 1/2 can is probably enough but if you can split it into 2 feedings with the dry food inbetween the wet feedings.  If you can do a schedule like this.  If you can't, do the best you can with spacing the meals out into at least a couple of times a day.

Nutro Max Cat is a premium dry food and I've used it forever with really good results.  Nutro Max Cat also puts out wet formulas.  Nutro also has the Natural Choice line but the Max Cat is the more economical of the the 2 lines.  You can check them out here http://www.nutro.com/natural-pet-food/natural-cat-food.aspx
