I have an almost 9 month old cat.  I currently feed her wet food only--Fancy Feast classic pate.  I'd like to give her some other types of food--like Friskies or something better if I can afford it and find it easily.  I live a hour away from the pet stores that carry the better food and I have to watch my $$$ so I can't go buying a bunch of food she isn't going to like or that I can't return.

My question is this......I see all kids of food recommendations.  I'm looking for a wet pate type food.  What do you recommend?

Also, since I'm feeding her FF......if I introduce her to another kind, should I do it gradually mixing it with her normal food or just try her at some meal?  And if she eats it GREAT!  If no, oh well.  I don't want to upset her tummy or eating habits but I'd like to give her more variety than FF.

Also, I know dry isn't good but isn't there a dry food out there that is decent?

I hope this makes sense

If you want to try some Friskies, just grab a few different paté flavors the next time you're at the store--it's cheap enough that you can experiment a bit. See which flavors she likes and, if you want to try higher-quality foods, try to get similar flavors.

Unfortunately the only way to know what higher-quality foods she likes is to buy some and try it. If you only buy one of each kind you can see what she likes and buy more of that the next time you go to the pet stores.

I never mix canned food when introducing new flavors. . .I think most cats are OK with that. Just offer it and see what she thinks. If she doesn't want it you can mix some FF in and see if that changes her mind.

i always offer matt a new food a spoonful at a time(in a smaller feeding)......so that if it doesn't agree with him he's not throwing up much....he has a sensitive tummy, that only seems to really like FF and friskies, although i like to add better stuff. i like to offer it at breakfast, to give me time to see how he tolerates it. i found he tolerated EVO well-it's about 2.97 for the 13oz tin, others that went down well and cost a little less were California Natural, Holistic Select, Go natural and merrik

I'm on a budget and have to watch what I pay for the cat's food, so i often choose the cheaper of the options..california natural and holistic select.

I hope this answered your questions

all the foods I mentioned in my post are better foods, but not knowing where  you are, I'd suggest EVO, it being a good quality food that I know is sold all over the place. also weruva, innova, wellness and merrik are fairly easy to find. These foods go for about 2.79-3.29 for the 13oz can depending on the brand and are all pate style. that's all i/ feed matt, since after storing it in the fridge, I warm it up by mixing in a little hot water so he'll eat it....you can only get away with that with pate foods

you did ask about decent dry food too; I feed Wholesome Blend easy to digest to my boy, who has a food sensitivity to  at least one of the standard dry food ingredients. it is almost grain free, but not quite, having oats to aid in digestion. the first ingredient is fresh deboned salmon, and I can actually recognise the rest of the ingredients
also it's Canadian made, so I know it's not crossing orders to get to me You can look it up at www.nutreco-pet.ca

another one that impressed me was an american food called Hollistic Blend They sent me a free sample when I called them to ask about their calorie count and Matt liked their grain-free formula Protein was higher, fat was lower than the food I feed him now

If you need a grocery store brand wet food, I would go with Friskies pâté. It is not as bad as some foods. :) Also, try looking for Nutro dry and wet food, it is sold at most grocery stores and is very good for the price. ;)
