Help!

My 18 year old cat is on thyroid meds and I am giving him a course of B12 vitamins.  He receives 4 liver support snacks a day and I give him some soybean / fish oil for his coat and a digestive aid of licorice root, slippery elm bark, and marshallow root.  Is there anything here that might be causing the problem?

GET YOUR CAT TO A VET ASAP.. He could have had a stroke, brain attack, or been poisoned.....

All kinds of things can cause dilated pupils.. dilated pupils are generally due to one of several things:

1. Head Injury

2. Drug Use

3. Stroke or TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack..) aka "Mini  Stroke".

4. Poisoning

5.. Many other things... Including high blood pressure (which would possibly point to heart or neurological things)

Fish Oil has iodine it, a big no-no with thyroid meds... And thyroid meds in cats (just like human meds) have to be closely regulated. With probably 30 different doses, sometimes it is trial and error to find the right one.  The B-12 is a good supplement to take with the thyroid meds (depending on hyper or hypothyroidism (too much or too little hormone being made..)

The mass amount of supplements he is on concern me. It is always best to check with a DVM to  be sure the supplements are OK to give kitty. The fish oil could very likely be the culprit... here is some info on iodine toxicity-- please get your baby to a vet ASAP- as it could be the iodine thing, or an unknown head injury or stroke.

This talks about iodine toxicity- and may help a bit.. just some general info.

Hope it helps

Hmm, I've just sent an email to his vet.  I will make sure that I mention that I've been giving my cat fish oil since I've started him on his thyroid meds.  His blood pressure was normal last month when I took him to the vet.  I will discontinue the digestive aid and fish oil until I get more information about what's going on.

Thank you so much!  I took my cat to the vet and found that his blood pressure was through the roof.  He is now on blood pressure medication and I am hoping that he can get at least some of his eyesight back.  He appears to be able to see something every now and then and it's only been a day.
