omg, I saw my cat on the railing today and I freaked out when I saw her up there. But I think she got spooked and landed on the stairs. I am not sure if she's okay or not. She then got up and ran under the table for a bit, then a while later ran back upstairs and is now sleeping next to me at my computer. If she is running around and jumping everywhere does that mean she is okay? Or could she still have some kind of internal injury? And she's just ignoring the pain? I have seen her up on the railings before and I always get her to jump back down, and she's never had a problem, expect today when she got spooked and fell off. Now I am scared she might be hurt but is not showing her pain? Do cats really land on their feet like they say? It looked like she did,  I am just really scared, because she always makes me so nervous when I see her up on the railing, and this is the first time she ever fell off it. Would she be okay?

Cats are amazing when it comes to landing on their feet.   WE seen a cat jump from a second story window- and next day it did it again.  I told the neighbor your cat is leaping out of the window upstairs and they were shocked.  NOT that I recommend encouraging it but it is possible for them to be okay.

My Stinkpot did that a couple of years ago, and I watched the entire thing.  I swear I lost 10 years off my life.  But, as he fell he pushed himself off one wall and kind of zigzagged himself thru the air to end up half way back up the stairs...on his feet.  He was scared alright, but it didn't appear anything was broken, so I just watched him for the entire day and nothing seemed out of the ordinary (for him

The good thing about it was that I think it taught him a lesson, at least for awhile.  He didn't get back up on that bannister again for a     l o n g

time.  Lately, though, he's been eyeballing it again

that your girl is aok.  I'd just keep an eye on her.  If she seems perfectly normal in all aspects, chances are, she is
.  But if you have any doubts at all, then call your Vet and see what they have to say.  (and they say having cats lowers your blood pressure!  Not today, huh!)

lol, thanks guys. I feel a bit better now. She seems to be okay for now, is jumping around and running around. But I will keep an I on her anyways just in case. But is there a way to keep your cat from jumping on railings? Our railing is not that wide, and I get nervous all the time, and I have my older male cat who loves to jump up on it too, only thing is is he is twice her size, so I get really nervous too that he could fall off. He loves to jump on the railing and hang his arms down from it. He did it at our old house a lot, but the railings were wider. Another time was when my cat, the female one, she gets really hyper and goes really crazy sometimes and jumps all over the place. Sometimes she will jump up really fast onto the railing and half the time I think one of these days when she is in her hyper crazed moods, she will just miss the railing and jump right over it. You are right, these cats make your blood pressure go up sometimes, not down, especially when you have more than 1 cat and they get into their hyper crazed moods.

Well, guess you could build a shelf on top of your bannister, to make it much wider, but in my mind, that's just inviting them to sit up there even more.  I seriously thought about trying to have sort sort of plexiglass thing created that we could affix to the outside of the bannister that that would angle in over the bannister to create a barrier.  (sorry, I can't describe what I'm talking about),  And for the bottom of the railing, we DID put in plexiglass, because "the boys" get to running down the hall and I'm afraid they might run right in between the railings and come flying down.  As it is, they crash up against that plexiglass, so I'm SO glad we installed it.  And you can't even tell it's there.  So, now that I'm thinking about it, guess you (and I) could put plexiglass from the bannister UP to the ceiling, or at least up high enough that they can't jump over it.
