Our building doesn't have in suite storage, so there are lockers down in the basement. When I first moved in the main locker door was open all of the time so you could go in and access your storage at your convenience.

Several years ago, probably more than 10 years, that changed. Suddenly the main door was locked and you had to get a key from the caretaker to access the locker room. Now that wouldn't have been so bad except that the locker access was very limited. In fact it was once a week for a 5 or 6 hour window, that really only worked if you were home during the day: I'm not.  And they wouldn't let you in outside of those hours either.  I had to complain to the office because the storage access hours prevented me from ever getting into my locker.  So for the last couple of years I've been able to make arrangement with a few days notice to get the key when I need it.

Today there was a notice under my door saying that as of last week the storage locker room will be unlocked daily between 8am and 10pm.  Which is how it should have been all along!

It seems that people have been parking their bikes (lots and lots of them, plus scooters!) in the basement hallway and locking them to the pipes and radiators, which is a fire and safety hazard because it blocks access.

So now at least this year I can get my Christmas ornaments out when I need to. One year the caretaker wouldn't even let me in to get my Christmas tree :(
