Does anyone know of a holistic aid for cats with arthritis pain.  I know my 18 year old DSH cat experiences stiffness and at times when he is laying himself down he looks like he is negotiating the best way to do it without causing himself.  He is on thyroid meds, milk thystle for liver support, and I just started him on a regimen of B12 shots that were prescribed by his vet.  Also, can the bottle of Pet Rescue that I have in my cabinet offer him any relief?

Studies show that Krill oil, 500mg per 10lbs of weight help greatly, reducing the pain quite quickly as well. I use this one for my cats as it is easier to puncture: NOW Foods Neptune Krill Oil
:yeah: Our Flowerbelle has significant degeneration of her hip ball joint. I didn't think it was affecting her mobility. But I started her on krill oil a few weeks ago - and it is clear it's helping her.

It helps people too, and the difference between krill oil and any other fish oil is significant: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/248069/buying-krill-and-fish-oil-online-may-not-always-be-a-good-idea

I'm sure you'll see a difference! BTW, Flowerbelle hates the krill, so I don't puncture it and squeeze it on to her food. If you want to try that first, I do recommend starting with a few drops, and gradually working up to the whole pill. But she hated it, so I just pill her with it. Works for us. :)

Hmm, I haven't yet had to pill my cat.  He usually takes pills in pill pockets.  Do you think I could have success that way?

All mine take it on the food - I just puncture the gel cap and spread it on the food. If you feed wet, even better, as the gel cap is so tiny, your kitty will not even notice it.... Just mix the contents in the food and give it to the kitty :D

I noticed that Drs. Foster and Smith offer a fish oil supplement for joint health and the price is lower.  Is this product not comparable to krill oil?

IMHO no fish oil is..... Which one are you talking about?
Also, you saw that NOW krill is for 120 gel caps, right?

Yep.... only Krill works WAY better for arthritis.... so..... It is a matter of choosing what you are going to pay for.... Something that really works... or....

500mg of Krill is NOT the same as 500mg of Fish oil.... :nono: If that is what you are comparing there... Krill is a totally different thing when it comes to O3

FYI - Laurie (LDG) was feeding Flowerbelle fish oil before - she is seeing clear, noticeable difference after she switched from fish oil to Krill.
Many people have had the same results as well..... And there are studies on Krill showing the same, specific for Arthritis.
That is the thing with Krill.... Yep, it is more $$$, but for what you are using, IMHO, it is worth it... My 2 cents.

Oh, I see.  Thank you!  That is definitely food for thought.  I will keep what you said in mind.

:yeah: A fish oil supplement will help their skin and coat, even if it's marketed for "joint health." But krill is definitely different - and works. I saw no change when using salmon oil (other than her coat becoming silky soft! :lol3: )

Some other things to consider along with the krill oil are acupuncture or aquapuncture, heated pet beds, and green-lipped mussel extract. Are you giving the B12 injections yourself? If you're comfortable with needles, Adequan injections can also be really helpful for arthritic kitties.

Yes, it appears that I am now totally sold on the Krill oil.  I am even going to reccomend it to an aunt who has arthritis.  Gonna order a bottle and report back.  I want my 18 year old kittie to have as comfortable an existence as he can while he is still with me.  It is important to me to help him using remedies that are as holistic as possible.  This Krill oil is exactly what I've been looking for.  Thank you all so much.

I just got my Krill oil in the mail.  What do I do to store it?  I am hoping that I don't have to refrigerate it because I am concerned this will make it harder for me to squeeze all of the oil out of the pill.  Please advise.

Thank you for your response.  I see no storage instructions at all.
