hey all,

so i was petting my cat and stroking her and as she turned around, i got sight of a red ring on the underside of her right back leg. it's around 12 millimeters in diameter and 1mm thick, circular, the outside color is a muted red and the inside is a bit pinker then her stomach usually is. could this be life threatening??? like, my mom and i think its a fungus, but could it be a type of skin cancer? since its a sunday I can't call the vet, but tomorrow i could potentially call the emergency vet...is this extremely serious?

please reply- i just want my cat to be healthy and happy <3

The odds are good that this is ringworm, which is not a worm, but a fungus.  You can treat it with athlete's foot treatments.  Just rub in the cream, if that's what you get.  Then wash your hands, any bedding the cat has slept on, etc., because it is fairly contagious.

the strange thing is though, that Ive looked up pictures of cats with ringworm, and this looks more like human ringworm...is that odd? could it be something else besides ringworm?

If you have any doubt, a vet check is a good idea.  Be aware that cat-specific ringworm medications can be expensive.
