my 4 month male kitten recently lost his mother (she was nursing him) He is eating well, playing little, but doesn't pass stool normally. He defecates once in two/three days that too with much pressure.  I think he is constipated. I am giving him boiled chicken and egg yolk, he doesnt drink water and also is not having milk since his mom died (since 25 days). Earlier at his mom time he used to drink water as he used to imitate his mom's actions..now he is quiet..He also doesnt like packed/canned food (wet or dry). please advise or suggest some home remedy as he is too young and also I do not wish to stress him in anyway as he is already sad for his mom... thanks...

Sounds like his body is using all of the nutrition he's eating and therefore doesn't have as much waste to put out.  I would work on transitioning him to kitten canned food.   At four months, he shouldn't be nursing anyway and should be eating normal cat/kitten food.  Try gradually adding canned food into his current food mixture over the next couple of weeks.  Gradually up the amount of canned food you're giving him over the 2 week period.  In the meantime, get some plain canned pumpkin puree (or use plain pumpkin or plain squash baby food with nothing else added) to act as a fiber and help things move along.  You can also add a bit of water (use the plain boiled chicken broth) to the mixture and make it the consistency of mush or thick oatmeal.

I wouldn't keep him on a diet of boiled chicken and egg yolk for very long. This is not balanced because meat and yolks contain much more phosphorus than calcium, and kitties need calcium in order to balance this imbalance. Also, what you're feeding him is not going to have all the nutrients he needs. Especially kittens will begin showing deficiencies if they aren't getting the right nutrients--lack of calcium can cause bone deformities, etc. Unless you want to go with a balanced raw diet (check the raw diet forum if you do), it is best to get him on a quality grain-free canned food right away.

Even though he is using the nutrients in the boiled chicken and egg, and producing less poo, this can indeed cause constipation. My kids will get constipated if I don't add a bit of a fiber source to their [balanced] raw diet with bone, but even plain meat with no calcium source, or with a calcium source, will cause constipation for mine if fed more than a week while I'm waiting for my meat supply.

The pumpkin is a good idea. If he doesn't like pumpkin you can try a small amount of salt-free peas that you puree. Also transitioning him to canned food is great advice--I would do this right away.

So sorry for the loss of his mama cat. Has to be hard on the little guy and you.

Yoghurt and cheese are not a natural part of a cat's diet.  Small amounts as occasional treats (weekly or less in my view) are OK, but they shouldn't be a normal part of a cat's diet.
