Yay!

Just got back from the vets for Kattie's workup! Bloods and urine are absolutely normal. No evidence of liver or kidney issues. Even her calcium was normal which was slightly elevated in July. Maybe a fluke or blood draw error. It was 9.5 when in July it was 12.1. her xrays look excellent. No heart or lung issues. No signs of any masses. Liver, spleen and pancreas are normal and not enlarged. The xrays were so clear and detailed that he was even able to roughly estimate bowel thicknesses and they aren't abnormal.  She also isn't megacolon. The one thing he did find is that she might have been hit by a car at one point in her life. Before we got her of course. Apparently she has an old pelvic fracture that has caused narrowing of the pelvic canal which may be the cause of her constipation if stool gets too bulky. He also said that she may have some minor nerve damage that also allows the stool to collect and get stuck. We never took ventral dorsal xrays on her so never caught that. This makes so much sense though! He says also that her fussy eating may be because of her blindness (caused by baytril many years ago) It has gotten worse, although her BP is normal. This may be causing her to become insecure a little bit. She is eating more, just not specifically at meal times. I leave the measured amount out and catch her eating when she wants.

Anyways, he said to keep her on the miralax to keep her stool soft and easier to pass. She can have pepcid as needed. We go back for a recheck in 4 weeks after all the covenia and depo the other vet gave her wears off and then we will tackle her allergies and hopefully not give her steroids anymore!

Thanks! It was all the good vibes from TC
! Now I can relax. She is very groggy tonight because they had to give  her buprenex. She isn't the most cooperative kitty when it comes to getting bloods and Xrays. They also told me that she peed on herself and they tried to clean her up but didn't want to stress her too badly. Thats ok though because I will give her a bath tommorow or Sunday. She is good for me, but nice they told me. I just love this clinic! Everyone is so nice and the doctor is very thorough. Going to transfer Oscar's records there as he will be due for an exam in November.

As for that other clinic, I am still angry at them, but relieved that my cat is ok. I almost want to write a review on yelp warning other potential clients. I feel bad doing that though. Then I think that this doctor basically gave my cat a terminal prognosis without a definitive diagnosis. The vet I worked for  would have never done that. If we suspected cancer or something, we would hospitalize a patient and do a workup to prove our suspicions. This guy offered none of that, and basically said there was no hope for my cat. What if I was a client that didn't know any better and chose to put her to sleep based on his "diagnosis" What he "tapped" in her abdomen was pretty much stool and not pus or necrotic material. She is a normal healthy cat based on bloods and xrays and urine. Oh a baseline bloodwork should always include a urinalysis which wasn't done in July when she had her bloods done the first time. They had to knock her completely out  with iso and didn't get a urine! It just seems kinda lazy and sloppy practice to me and my new vet agrees without trying to totally badmouth the other vet. He is very professional. I feel like I should let it go, but then I also feel like I should write a  review or even  a letter to the clinic. I want other potential clients to know so they don't have to go through the stress and possibly even put a beloved pet to sleep based on a wrong diagnosis. Heck he put a cat with an enlarged heart down while I was there. Didn't offer the owner a workup, or give her the options of medications. Enlarged hearts can be managed and there might have been underlying disease that could have been taken care of. This vet just seemed to eager to pull a diagnosis out of his hat but not back it up with facts or even offer options of treatments. Ack! I'm getting all worked up again! Just wondering what you guys would do. Would you let it go, or write a review on yelp or something or even a letter to the clinic to let them know their error. It's a pity, as the techs and receptionst are all really nice, even if they could use a few pointers on their radiograph technique! The xray they took was poor and falsly made the pylorus enlarged and it was very washed out. I could tell that, just because if I gave an xray to my boss that looked like that, he would have told me to take another! The xrays at the new place were so clear and more what I'm used to seeing. I could go on lol. Just happy!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
:wow:    I am SO glad you decided to get the second opinion! (And so is Kattie!) :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Yes, I would write something on yelp. I know it feels... unsettling. But what would have happened if you hadn't gone for a second opinion? People trust their vets - and SHOULD be able to. :heart3: When they can't.... they should know. :( You may help save lives. :heart3:

Thanks!
I am so happy that Kattie is ok. She is still being fussy a little, but more on the location of where she is being fed and not the food itself. Apparently since her blindness is progressing, she is more insecure especially around our other cat because he wants to play and she doesn't. He jumped on the bed when she was eating before all this started and he probably scared her. She is more comfortable eating on the cat tree so that is where she is fed now:).
She does have detached retinas from baytril, but it is getting worse. It is weird though because she jumps up on the at tree, chairs and from my bed to the window perch about 3 feet away. Poor girl, but I think she is getting by pretty well.
As too the yelp review, I am definitely going to write a review, both for this cat vet, and a good one for my current vet. I am waiting a few days though to be more objective and less emotional about. I feel bad because the vet as a person was nice and all his employees were nice, but it was somewhat disorganized and not very professional. Its funny though, because I looked on yelp and he has 3 five star reviews. Mostly rhey were commenting on his very reasonable prices, especially vaccines, and one was on a complex case that he was the second opinion on. One thing I really don't like about that clinic especially in hindsight, is the fact you can opt for no exam on vaccines and apparently even on steroid injections.ce techs give the steroids and even the rabies vaccine which, at least in california where I was a vet tech, was illegal. Vets had to give rabies and it is just good practice to examine the animal before giving things like vaccines and steroids. Hmm not good...
