Aww, I am just reading your post. I hope your little girl is continuing to do better.
You are defiantly on the right site!  The knowledge & support is so helpful! (I have benefited from it in the past as well).

I know how hard it can sometimes be financially. As someone who was just there not to long ago, I wanted to make a suggestion that may help in the future. Apply for Care Credit. It saved me when my baby had to stay at the vet's for two nights, ultrasounds, X-Rays, etc..  Payments were very manageable. Really took the stress off!

Vibes for your little girl to continue feeling better & eating.

Just got done with feeding session 2 of 3 for the day.  She still isnt eating on her own but she is swallowing and keeping down the food via syringe.  I always offer her to eat on her own first but no such luck yet.

*tjcarst* - I havent contacted the original vet about the antibiotic and debating if it is even worth it - leaning towards just focusing on my girl getting better.  The med they gave her was used widely to treat URIs but it wasnt until recently that it was found to not be effective.  Could also just be difference of opinions between doctors.

*angles mommy* - I did apply for Care Credit and they turned me down.  I never took out a loan or a credit card in my life so my credit is very much not established unfortunately :( thanks for the advice though!

Face (that's her name) seemed much more like herself today.  A lot less coughing and seems less congested.  She was rolling on her back when I was petting her and I haven't seen her comfortable enough to do that in over a week!  So very good signs.  Of course, I am still a worried Dad so I am now waiting to see some bowel movements to let me know that the food is being process and digested correctly.  Hopefully she will be eating on her own soon.  I feel that we are getting closer to getting over the hump.

Thanks again for your continued support - I'll keep you all posted!

Thanks again all for so much love and support!!!  This has been quite the journey for us both!

Figured I'd update and let you know that I just got home and Face was super affectionate, rolling over and giving me plenty of "kittie bunts" beggin for more petting :)  She even had the energy and interest to play with a shoe lace for 20 minutes!  No visible mucus around her nose or mouth anymore.  Little bit of eye boogers but nothing out of the ordinary.  Evidence that she was drinking water while I was gone but no sign of eating food.  I will offer her dinner soon and syringe feed her if need be.

Question is that now it looks like she is feeling better should I back off with the syringe feeding 3x per day or just keep it up until she eats a fresh plate right when I offer it to her?

Other question is that she is confined to the bathroom / closet - The people at the Humane society recommended to leave her there for a week.  Should I just suck it up for both of us and do that or can I give her free reign of the apartment when she starts eating on her own?

I'll stick to the original game plan for now but figured I'd ask if there are signs to let me know when to back of the nursing and start letting her get back to being a cat :)

Thanks again for all the love.  Face can feel ur vibes and is showing love right back at ya! :)

Update:

She's a champ.  Just fed her 1/5 can of wet food mixed with water and L-Lycine.  I didnt need to wrap her in a towel or put her in my lap.  I didnt even need a towel on the floor.  She just sat there, cocked her head back and let me feed her.  I am truly amazed.  What a wonderful girl she is.  Her washcloth barely got dirty from the "spill over" - she got 95% of it in her  mouth and not all over the place.

I did offer her a chance to eat by herself after each syringe full but she clearly cant smell it.  She almost rolled in her food and just rolled around on her treats.. it's like she has no idea that they are there! It was fun to share a laugh with her.  Quite the spectacle.

We are both blessed to be in each other's lives.  This sure beats having her put down in the shelter.  Glad I picked her up before she was showing any symptoms so that she can have a loving home and another shot at life :)

That's so awesome!  Glad she's not resisting the feedings and she's getting some nutrition.  Once her nose starts to clear up, she'll start eating on her own more.  Keep up the good work and I'm so glad you're not giving up on her!!!

VICTORY! !!!!

I tried a little experiment last night.  I noticed when I first got her that she tended to be a "nocturnal eater" so I skipped her dinner last night and left a plate of food out for her.  When I woke up this morning, to my delight, she ate the whole plate!!!  I'm so happy :)  She has free reign of the house now and is moving about getting acclimated again.  No fuss taking her antibiotics this morning and shes walking around with her tail held high! (When she was sick, her tail was always tucked).  So all very good news :) - She's even talking to me again! (She lost her voice for a few days)

Thanks again for everyone's help and support though this trying journey - quite the learning experience for the both of us!

Much appreciation and love
