Our neighbor (Fran) is away on vacation for around 10 days or 2 weeks. Her cat, Callie, is an indoor/outdoor cat. When they go away for just a few days I get Callie into the house and leave her there a I feel safer. But Callie loves to be outside, and she never goes anywhere other than the front of their house and into the garage. They left Sunday and I've been there every day, leave food and water in the garage, but she doesn't want to come into the house. Today I finally got her in the house and will let her out again tomorrow. I just always have the fear that something will happen to her while they're away and I'd feel terribly guilty. I know it's not fair to an outdoor cat to be in the house for 2 weeks (even though I feel she should be indoors). Also she had an ear infection before they left, which the dr treated. It needs to be cleaned with peroxide and I finally got to do that today. No sign of any more infection, but at least I got to check it. Poor Callie does not like to be indoors all the time! Just the opposite of our 3, who love their home and I don't think they remember ever being outside. Only Tony has always been an indoor cat, but Angel and Tippy were strays who now are strictly indoor kitties.

You are a wonderful neighbor!
Callie is a very lucky indoor/outdoor kitty.

Some people may think that Fran is an irresponsible cat owner, but I have indoor/outdoor cats and I do go on vacation too. My cats have never left their territory and according to the cat sitter, they seem to prefer to hang near the house more - as if they miss me and are waiting anxiously for me.  Perhaps Callie is like that. She is wary about going to your house because she is looking out for Fran in her house.

But your concern towards her safety and well being is admirable. Bless you.

Boy, I wish I had a neighbor like you! :lol3: I would love to find a reliable sitter who lives on the block. No such luck. Yeah, I would be nervous too, BUT you are doing what they want you to do with Callie. Letting her in and out. I tell ya, I would never feel good about going away and allowing the sitter to let my cat outdoors. Although, my cats are indoor only too. Still, IF I had an indoor/outdoor cat, I would ask them to keep the cat indoors while I was gone, but that's just me. Mrs. Worryaboutthecats. Hope all goes well for the two weeks and Callie stays safe and sound. :vibes::vibes:

I agree about leaving her indoors - but they've never been away for more than 3 or 4 days. I was over there today and she is still indoors. If she wants to go out tomorrow I'll let her. Meanwhile, I checked the ear, which looks fine, put some peroxide on it, refilled her food and water dishes and stayed and petted her for a while. She seems very lonely! She really is a sweet cat. And her litter box--well I've never seen such a neat little girl. Our 3 scatter the litter all over the place. Callie is just a neat little lady, but maybe it's because she doesn't use the litter box on a daily basis.
