I like to use silica gel cat litter, adsorption ability is very good, and the price is very cheap .better than sawdust litter.

So far I've only tried one kind, Maxxx scoop clumping and non clumping. So far I dislike it, I often completely empty and clean my litter box and I found the clumping stuff only filled my box twice. Now I have the non clumping in a big bag (10kg) it's awful, it smells nice but it's awful non clumping. I'm pretty lucky so far my kittens are not picky about litter, they actually love it when the box is just cleaned, they will play in it.

I'm new to the cat world. Have two kittens for about two months who are about 7 months old now. Tried Worlds Best in the green bag, clumps well, but VERY dusty, didn't mind the corn smell though, thought it just smelled fresh. Then went to the Worlds Best Mukti Cat in the red bag, controlled smell better but still dusty. Then tried something called C9 which was recommended by a friend, did NOT clump the pee at all, didn't like it. Now trying Tidy Cat...the jury is still out in that. Really don't want a clay based litter. Thinking of trying Natures Miracle now after reading about it here.

Clumping? Non-clumping?

I live in the UK and use Sani-Cat crystals... they work for my girls.

I've been using Arm & Hammer and I always ended up dumping out all the litter weekly and there was still a horrible odor. I changed the litter daily and would sanitize the entire litter box with water and bleach but Arm & Hammer was HORRIBLE.

I've since switched to Dr. Elsey Precious Cat Litter  the one in the blue bag (unscented) this litter is amazing. With regular cleanings I usually don't throw it away I just top it every few days. When I first got this litter Carl would just lay in the litter box and just play around

Here is the video where I got some great tips from:

Question:

Why many cat keepers (in this thread) are against Clay Litter?

Honestly, can't find the proper answer! What's wrong with it?

I have been using it for pretty long time, it's working perfectly for me & for my cats, and couldn't notice any bad effects, so far...

It is bad for the environment and cats can get very sick if they eat it. Plus, my experience has been that the natural litters work and smell better than clay. Plus they are not so heavy to carry into the house :)

Lastly-did try "Cat Attract" which is SUPER costly but guaranteed-but finally had a pet store worker fess up its just basically regular clumping litte r with catnip in I t!!! So next time I had.a time where Cat Attract might have helped-sprinkled small amount of catnip in bottom of clean box & topped with a thin layer of my regular litter-worked like magic at 1/8 the cost of Cat Attract! Just a thought!

Well, I like Feline Pine. My cats on the other hand are most delighted with clay clumping letter. Some of the kitties will use Feline Pine and I appreciate how easy it is to clean the box when you have to empty and wash it. I find the way clay or Sweat Scoop sticks to the bottom of the pan like super glue. We use Arm n Hammer and Tidy Cats multi cat and Tidy cat's low dust for the confined kitty.

Well, I wanted to keep this a secret but I think I'll just go ahead and admit it. For the past year and a half, at least, I have unknowingly been providing the absolute worst type of cat litter imaginable for my cats (two full grown males): non-clumping clay.
I know. It's terrible. Go ahead and take a moment to breath if you need to.

Well, that all changed the minute I read this thread (literally three days ago).  I remember my face being frozen like this for a solid hour:
Then I did some more reading, more research, and went out and bought Feline Pine. Can I just say best decision ever!!!   I didn't even KNOW how much unnecessary dust, odor and stress I was dealing with until after it was gone. The cats seemed skeptical at first, but now they are just as relieved as I am at how dust-free and stink-free the house is now. To be fair, I can still sometimes smell kitty-poop, but it's super easy to follow your nose to the source, quickly eliminate it, and restore the space to smelling like fresh pine.
My bf claims it smells like hamster cage, but what do men know.

Long story short, I am so happy TCS helped me to be a better (and cleaner!) Crazy Cat Lady.
Hopefully my past transgression can remain our little secret.

After trying all sorts of natural litters like SwheatScoop and Feline Pine that merely made Jamie sneeze, and paper and crystals that he totally rejected, I settled on very fine clumping clay litter called Golden Grey, and continued to use it for Mogli. Something about it was changed a few months ago, as it became dustier and more heavily scented, so I switched to another clumping clay, Cat&Clean.
No more experiments with "natural litters" around here. They were either too smelly, too messy or had too many allergens. There are good, virtually dust-free clay litters that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Crystal litter works for some cats, but not others. Jamie hated every brand I tried and scratched it out of his box.

The best kind of litter is the kind that Ritz will use without any fuss, the one her foster parent used.
I use Scoop Away. I can get good prices on Scoop Away. I prefer the kind that isn't scented, though Ritz doesn't seem to care one way or the other.
Her litter box is in the shower stall (I take baths) so while there is some dust it doesn't bother either her or me.
I understand Tidy Cats isn't as dusty.
I wash her litter box about every three to four weeks, and have changed litter boxes frequently (same style, somewhat different shapes). She doesn't complain about the difference in litter boxes, so I'm not going to change her litter on her.

Has anybody tried out the Tidy Cats Lightweight yet? I saw it in the store, but it just looks like less litter for the same price. Does it work as advertised? I cannot imagine that small amount lasting for more than a week!

I use Scoop Away , it's about 12 $ for a 42 lb bag I get it @ Cosco,, keeps the oder under control and lasts
A good while . It is the clay type but the firm clumping is worth the dust , I've found that almost all litters produce dust.

I have been using crystal litter for the last few months (Fresh Step and Mimi). I really like it, but I was changing it twice a week with fostering six kittens. It was getting expensive to do so. I now have half as many kittens so I may stay on using it or I might try the Breeze litter system. IDK.
