I went to work today and before I could clock in, I got a summons to HR. I have been laid off due to down sizing. Jessica, the girl that was hired with me, got laid off too.  I had a feeling that this was coming since they have been firing people left and right but did not know it would happen this soon. I was expecting maybe in January.

I am going to regroup my mind today and tomorrow and then on Monday begin looking for work. I will be good for 12 weeks since I am getting paid through the 5th and then will have at least 10 weeks of severance. If I find a job before then, I won't get the rest. But I hope to have a job by then.

Be praying that I will find something soon.

Katie, I will let you know if I have to withdraw from the Secret Santa. I won't know for awhile.

I'm so sorry.  It's never easy.  I was laid off once on my first day back from vacation.  It was in 2007 and I'm still a little salty over it from time to time.

Good luck finding a new and BETTER job!

There are so many things to think about. I was "offered" my old position back. I am considering taking it for now since I really need the insurance. I might have some serious health issues that I need to get checked out.

Honey, I'm so sorry!! But, you have money coming in and you can apply for unemployment so you aren't completely without means. I know right now is panic times (DH got laid off a few months ago and I went into a panic) but, see what unemployment will give you while you try to figure out what you are going to do. It should be enough to make ends meet while you regroup.

Take it!  You will have income, and insurance. And you can then take your time looking for work elsewhere.  What's important is being able to keep a roof over your head and food on the table.

:yeah: Jobs are not coming around very often.... with benefits? Even rarer.... I would not even think twice on that one. Take a Two week "vacation" to regroup as you are not going to have any for a while, and start the new "old" job soon hun :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
:hugs:

Ah, well, welcome to the club!

I hate looking for a job.  And it's always best to do it while you still have a job.

Toys R Us helped any of the drivers who didn't hire on with the new company to file for unemployment and agreed not to contest it.  But if I couldn't make it on the JB Hunt pay, how could I make it on unemployment?  But I'm still looking for a better situation.  I hope you find one, too.

It looks to me like fewer companies are offering insurance, or at least good insurance.  I would take the other job and then do a lot of looking.  As I said, it's always easier to find a job while you have a job.

I'm sorry to hear that. Job hunting stinks.

I got laid off in March due to downsizing after 5½ years with a laboratory. Finding jobs in that field here are hard (only thing I have a decent amount of experience in because I worked there from 19-25), and I don't even really want to do that anymore. I ended up returning to school with a full time+ schedule in a new field (Transportation & Logistics), but am noticing that even in that field it seems you need experience for entry level jobs... how are you supposed to get experience in something if you need it prior to working there?! Many open jobs here in SC aren't paying very much at all, to the point that unemployment is more than many of the jobs.

If getting a CDL didn't cost so much (BF's dad says its costing Peterbilt $3500 to get him a CDL), I'd consider just driving a truck (I've driven a few bobtail around a parking lot, & used to have a 38ft gooseneck trailer I hauled around with a big F350 dually), being as I live in a port city, and know people that drive/own their own small trucking companies; plus it seems those are the highest paying jobs listed around here lately outside of nursing/hospital jobs!

You can get a CDL for free from several different companies, but you'll have to work for them for a year after you do.  My wife teaches at one of the company schools, FFE.

If you want a job in transportation, contact a company like JB Hunt Dedicated Contract Services.  All but one of the guys working dispatch on our account are young, fresh out of school, no experience with trucks.  If you're female, I suspect they would be overjoyed to get you, just to stay out of court on discrimination suits.

Sorry to hear that happened, but the offer back may ber a blessing to be able to have income & insurance, while you look for a new job.
 Good luck to you!!!

After much thought, talking it over with my DH and others, I have decided to pass on taking that other position. I found out that I and the other girl were not the only ones let go. There were 3 supervisors, 2 shift coordinators and the floor trainer let go too. That tells me that the office is definitely closing in a couple of months. I will be paid for 12 weeks at my regular pay and I might have another job lined up already. Just need to talk to someone at church tomorrow.

The floor trainer was the one that clinched it for me. There will not be anymore classes. They are firing people left and right. It is time to go elsewhere.
