Thank you so much, really appreciate your analysis. She has a timid tabby personality, not really a Bengal personality. Although I find it interesting that she may have Bengal in her ancestry. Thank you again!

I thought that Bengals were differentiated from Tabby's by having black pads and a black tail tip?  Isn't it rare to find a cat with complete black bottoms of their feet?  I bought my cat from a suspect breeder.  Following advertising in the newspaper, I drove over 100 miles to look at these "Spotted Bengal Kittens" for $500.  Upon arriving, she came up with a story about the person she loaned her cat out to breed with screwed her over, and that's why he did not have spots.  Only paid $100 for him, and he is not marked like a typical Bengal with spots.  He does have the personality of a Bengal though, with black paws and a black tail tip, and at 14 years old, still wilder than a March Hare, lol.  Loves water, and is not at all a lap cat, but definitely a one person cat.  Nothing like any other cat I have ever had.  So, what do you think?  Bengal?  Mixed?  Tabby?  Mutt?

A good photo from his side is essential.

Also, a 14 years is not longer as slender as a 2 year, whom we usually compare against the standards.

Still, my impression from these pics is he is at most a mix.

Bengal is a breed. Tabby is a pattern, which occurs in many different breeds, including Bengal and domestic random bred cats. There are also several different tabby patterns:
Mackerel tabby = stripes
Classic or Marbled = swirls, bulllseye, etc.
Spotted = distinct spots
Ticked = alternating light and dark bands on each hair shaft
The distinction isn't always clear, some cats seem to have combinations of the different tabby patterns such as broken mackerel that looks like spots lined up in rows instead of random.

Black paw pads and black tail tip are not definitive, either. Black paw pads aren't the most common, but they aren't rare. Same goes for the tail tip. If those were the determining factors my abyssinian would be a bengal. :lol3: Abyssinians are ticked tabbies and the breed standard for the ruddy color abyssinian requires either black or brown paw pads and a black tip on the tail--among other characteristics.

If you read the TICA breed standard you'll see that the only patterns allowed are Spotted and Marbled. What I see in your pictures is a Mackerel tabby pattern. He may have some Bengal in him, but there's no way to tell by looking at him. Without pedigree papers he's considered a DSH (Domestic Shorthair). All of which does not make him any less special. :heart3:

My two cats look exactly like yours.  Same markings, black feet, white chin.  Crazy personality.  I think they are a mix between tabby and bengal and so does my vet.

Is my cat a tabby or part bangal?
Tabby.   :)

Quite a few tabbies do carry spots on the tummy, so this dont prove anything.

If your cat has some bengal ancestry, its far back, longer than a granddad.

I recently got a lovely cat at the pound that I thought was a DS Tabby but I am starting to have some doubts about that. He is a lovely cat don't get me wrong but some of his habits are a mite peculiar
He can wake up everyone in the house with his high pitch screeching yowl, he has killed everything he can catch, he stays on the ground more than any cat I know, he has rosettes on his stomach, acts more like a dog ( I tell everyone what a good dog he is), walks funny and can jump sooooo high. It doesn't matter what he is because I love him but I was curious if anyone can tell me if these are Bengal like I would like to know if I'm taking care of him all right or if he needs something I haven't thought of.

We want to see some good picts too, together with this lively description.   :)

I'm personally not seeing any Bengal in her, though her markings are certainly unique. My guess as to her markings would be Torbie (Tabby/Tortie) and white.

His name is Grimalkin but I'm thinking of changing it to the Grim Reaper (he brough me a rabbit and a ground squirrel this morning). I don't know if this is a Bengal trait but he is obsessed with the bathroom especially the toilet and insists on sitting on my lap of I use it. I know he is not a purebred but I'm thinking a mix.

I personally think he is a domestic short hair, brown tabby for markings. He looks like several of the cats in our rescue.

(As a side note... You should feel very loved receiving all those prized catches!)
