Any breed of dog can get along with cats, but usually only if they are exposed to them at a young age.

You may even be able to adopt a chihuahua from a shelter that gets along with cats. They staff usually either know wether or not they get along, or can do a test (dont worry, they do it safely and efficiently) to determine how they react to cats.

Just know that you do not want to hold the dog or keep it away from the cats, this will make the dog lose confidence and it will be a mess- i learned that from the show "My cat from hell".

I have a pit bull (we had another that was recently put down at the age of 14 R.I.P) that gets along great with my cats. And he met them when he was an adult, he was just fine with it.

My mom has Chihuahua's and cats. They get along fine, hers do at least. It truly just depends on the animal's personality. If your cats are older, and you plan to get a puppy, it should be easy for them to get to know eachother. In my opinion. I am new here, and I'm not sure how this forum works but Ive been raised around all sorts of animals. The cats being older, will be able to get away from the pup if need be. Although, the cats still having claws, if they happen to slap at the pup, from my experiences, it won't really harm the puppy but will scare him/her.

When you first introduce them, do so in a controlled environment. A larger, open room with lots of high space for the cats to jump up to and supervision the entire time. Since the puppy is the new one, make sure you let the cats see you petting and playing with the pup but make sure to baby them as well.

Good luck! Hope this is helpful!
