Well Matt wasn't too happy at first, but after a couple of days of begging every time i went into the kitchen,

Matt s  getting used to eating less

i have dropped him from half a 13oz tin and 1/4 cup of dry........down   to one 5.5oz and less than 1/4cup dry,and he's tolerating it, with a little water mixed into the food, and sticking to denser patee style foods. i'll see how this goes for a while, and if he loses any weight or just stops gaining. The vet's not concerned at all yet, but his ideal was 11.6, and he's 14 right now....so if he loses a little we'd all be happy

Good luck with the weight loss for your kitty! If you feed a high quality canned food, then the 5.5 ounce per day should suffice and just offer him some kibbles as a snack or treat. It is always better to nip the weight gain in the bud before they get too pudgy! Good luck!!! :wavey:

I got hold of the vet yesterday, and she gave me the exact amount to feed Matt

I had it close, he can have his can, and 1/8th cup dry a day.  She also suggested feeding him his wet at his early am, after school, and late evening...with the kibble to hold him during the school day......so we'll up that into play and see if he gets thinner
