Yeah it appears either my husband, the vet, and i are mistaken, or i have a gender confused cat....

Up until a few hours ago today i was POSITIVE Masquerade was indeed female. We got "her" when she was 8 weeks old, there was no sign of testicles or any boy parts. even the vet said it was a girl.

well, a little while ago, "she" was sitting in the corner and was grooming "her" nether regions when i just so happen to look over and noticed what appeared to be something belonging to the opposite gender o_O

So i immediantly hoped online and started doing a little research on how to gender a cat that perhaps had been fixed at a young age or anything else. Well "her rump" looks like a girls cats rear to me. So i looked up worms and other things (which has been a struggle since we got there, right now she is taking pills to treat a tape worm and will be placed on heart worm preventatives soon) Nothing even close. And now i'm SURE it was a little boy part.

There are several conclusions i came to.

the first, She is actually a He, but the testicles have not descended yet and might be stuck up in there....

or, shes a hermaphrodite, rare...but possible.

We are in the middle of a move and out bank account is low, so the best i can do a the moment is take "her" in to have a closer look and be sure of the gender. Then get it all taken care of in the new city when the first paycheck comes in.

Ive looked at all the health risks to anything that i came up with, so i am aware of them. We are going to be dropping more than a pretty penny on this cat in the next month or so to get it 100% and happy and healthy, its going to be a rough time for my kitty. but there will be a bit of feline interaction involved while we are living with my sister and her 6 yr old cat, Taboo.

Opinions/advice/any help would be sooo appriciated. this is turning into a  confusing, furry mess

If you can get a booty pic, that would be most helpful! :lol3: It's hard to get a good pic of a wiggly cat, but I don't think anybody will be able to say for sure without it.

Usually, a female looks like this ¡ and a male looks like this : (the top dot being the anus and the other being the genital opening). Some kitties aren't so obvious (I have a girl I thought was a boy for a long time), but usually.

Where did you get "her"? Any possibility s/he was fixed before you got him/her? If not, and s/he is a male, probably he's a cryptorchid. Which isn't a big deal but the neuter will cost more :(. My cousin's kitty was a cryptorchid and his neuter cost about $180 (a normal neuter is about $75). . .but of course that depends on the vet.

i can get a booty pic in a couple minutes, ill have to figure out how to post them here though

its just wierd, the vet told us it was a girl, and it was pretty femanine back there when "he" came to us.

we got "him" from my husbands parents. and they said "he" hadnt been fixed yet. and there have been no sign of testicles. i just went with what the vet told us. i think we were all mistaken.

Photobucket is the easiest way for me to post pics. There are other ways, I think. . .but that's easiest.

ETA: nevermind, you got it :D

Assuming that is just weird lighting (and not a poop as it looks like :lol3:), that looks like a girl to me.
Can you have someone else pet him/her while you take another photo?

Maybe you could lay a lamp nearby so you dont have to use flash?

Ah, yeah, that's a boy :tongue2:. It's crazy how VETS can get it wrong! At least his name isn't gender-specific :lol3:. How old is he now?

Hmm, the vet made my cousin wait until her cat started acting like a tomcat before he would do the cryptorchid neuter, just in case he had already been neutered (even though she had raised him from 3 days old!). Around 10 months it became pretty obvious. . .

Anyway, yeah, get him to the vet when you can. Maybe the vet can feel if the testicles are close to the surface and possibly pop them through (I've heard of it being done with dogs. . .not sure if it's possible for cats). And you can discuss the options. But it's not an emergency. You have several months before anything really has to be done.

Boy

A boy has the punctuation mark  " : "  (colon)

A girl has the punctuation mark of an upside down exclaimation mark  " ! " (only upside down)

Photos are too unlcear to see, and the cats colouring doesn't help for clear shots either

By 27 weeks the testicles would be clearly visible, one retained testicle is more common than both. You can gently press the genital area, a penis will pop out if it's a boy.

I was going by the picture in post 12. . .the lower opening is clearly small and round. Nothing on a girl looks like that. Plus the distance from the anus is more than a girl would have. And the OP did see something :lol3:. From the coloring I can't tell about his testicles, maybe he does have something there but they're small? There's a slight roundness in the area.

i always just went with what the vet said, he looked like a girl to me when i got him, his body shape is the same as my girl cat back home, other than the fact he started to get that saggy looking skin toward the back of his body like a lot of boy cats get. and a lot more muscley.

when i was raising some kittens a few years back the body shape and stuff was how i told them apart, and that time i was right.

funniest thing to me is, i asked him if he was a boy and since then his almost agression towards me has gone away. now he is a really calm nice cat. lol. he has been coming to lay with me and curl up on my lap, were when i thought he was a girl he would walk up and claw smack me or bite.
