Over the river and through the woods...
Sorry this is so late everyone, I lost internet this morning and I just now realized it was Sunday and I hadn't posted the question. Oops....

Anyway, today was my niece's 16th birthday. She's already talking about the kind of car she wants (well, she's been talking about that for the last year lol) so it got me to thinking. What was your first car?

I started driving in my parent's 73 LeMans, an ugly brown thing, that barely got me from point A to point B. The first car that was mine was a 78 Firebird. It was also pretty ugly, maroon with an orange racing stripe, but it was sweet! It was not very practical though, a V-8 engine in the hands of a 18 year old. I had to put the seat all the way up to reach the gas and brake (5' 1" here) and I could barely see over the steering wheel so my dad put bricks under the seat to raise it and I sat on 2 glider cushions, but I loved driving it! I got a tape converter for the 8 track player and I was set. So many memories....

The first car that was mine was a 1973 Pontiac Astra.  My Dad had bought it new for my brother and it was given to me when it was about 5 years old when my Brother  got a different car. My brother was hard on vehicles and there was work needed on it, but I couldn't afford to get it fixed because most of everything I earned was going towards my room and board at my brothers. And the rest that I earned went to paying for my medical and school supplies, and bus fare, with a small amount left over for entertainment. I eventually sold it to a friend for a couple hundred bucks.  He fixed it for $500 and drove it for a year before it was written off in an accident (not his fault), and he got $2500 for it from the insurance company.

The next car that I actually owned that I drove was an Italian sports car.  A 1979 Fiat Spider Convertible. 2 seater, 5 speed standard.

I didn't start driving until I was 19 (1998/1999). The first car I drove on a regular basis was my uncle's old Buick LeSabre (he was storing it at my grandma's house and wanted it driven to keep it from going bad). I don't know how old, LOL, probably an '80s model. Next was my parents' "spare car", it was a Ford Taurus. Don't know what year. But since that was around 2000, I guess it was older than that :tongue2:, maybe a 1993 or 1994? Then in 2002 or 2003 I got my own car, a 1999 Honda Civic. And, well, I'm still driving it :lol3: :anon:. 260,000 miles now and still not a bit of trouble. I'm almost afraid to get anything else! But I do want a Subaru Forester. Maybe soon.

My first car was a Buick Century that was one year younger than me!
My step-dad bought it for $100 off a co-worker.  I was 17 when he got it and the biggest reason they got it was so I could take my step-brother to work and drive myself to chorus (practice was before school).  They found hauling my step-sis to her friend's houses a plus too.  I didn't really mind.  And since I drove my step-brother to work so much I didn't hesitate asking him for gas money here and there.  Gas was cheap back then!

It was so big I would sit on my foot to be higher when I drove sometimes.  Also it took muscle to steer it.  If I drove over a puddle or we had a heavy enough downpour it would stall or not even start.  And the fabric was coming down from the ceiling which would shower me with these sandy feeling particles...which is just great for a contact wearer!  It also was missing a lot of paint and the upholstery had come apart in spots...but I was driving!

my first car was a cute teal blue Plymouth Laser (can't remember the year.. '91 maybe?). Shame they don't make them anymore! It was the perfect girly teenage car and it lasted me well through high school and early college. Then I sold it when I inherited my grandmother's '94 (I think) Mitshubushi Galant (another great car!)

and when I got my first job, my dad and I went halfsies on my brand new (At the time) 2004 Jeep Liberty, and it's now my absolute favorite car. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

We love Jeep products, and just bought a brand-new Liberty 2 months or so ago. DH loves it! (We had a Wrangler, which he traded in toward the Liberty. Even at 12 years of age, it had decent trade-in value.)

My 1st car was a 4th-hand 1983 Mercury Zephyr. BIG and HEAVY. I miss it. It saved my life when I was broadsided at 60MPH the first time I was out by myself driving after gettig my license. The next was an '84 Plymouth Reliant (3rd-hand!).  When that died suddenly, I bought my 1st brand-new car: a 1998 Plymouth Neon, in bright red--and still have it, and it's going strong. DH keeps bugging me to buy a new car (remember my posts on that recently?), but I'm keeping it until it dies.

1986 Camaro V6 that my dad gave me on Easter when I was 14. I never legally drove it on the road though and had it until I was 19.

I bought a 1984 Camaro Z28 when I was 16, a day after getting my learner's permit. Well, dad bought it, I paid him back in $50/mo payments :lol3: I still have it, though it's been off the road since 2006.
