Hi Everyone...

So my darling little Smokie decided he was going to rub his head onto a still wet project I was working on where I was painting something lime green with spray paint (Liquitex professional spray paint)..

Soap..W ater.. Baby Oil.. Baby Wipes-- NOTHING is removing it- Any help?

Poor doll is humiliated lol.. as near as I can tell it is an acrylic type base and it seems to be dyed, not caked- it is almost as if someone took a green highlighter to him, it is too close to his eyes to think of any chemicals, and I dont want to have to trim him either - except as a last resort

I think you're gonna have a green kitty for a while! :lol3: I can't think of anything that would take it out that's not more toxic than the paint. I'm sure he won't feel too humiliated as long as you can stop laughing at him :tongue2:.

OMG just the title of this thread has me rolling!

Poor little guy- I'm sure he just hangs his head in shame. I have no idea what would get it out other than what you have tried. I would say just let it be but I would maybe worry that he would keep trying to groom at it and then ingest it which can't be good. But, if it's really stuck on there like you are describing then that may not be a concern. I would probably do little trims until it all grows out. And get him into therapy. He's really going to need it!

Personally I think it would be fantastic if he was in the Christmas photo with a little green head! I know if I got that Christmas card I would keep it on my fridge year round! Too adorably funny!

I did a search on liquitex professional spray paint.  What I found said it is a water based paint. If that be true, it should wash out.   Did you look at the can to see if it cleans up with water.  Does anyone else know if you can wash a cat with Dawn detergent.  Just an idea but, Nebula, don't do it without asking the vet or finding out if some else has washed their cat with Dawn.

I think a lot of people use Dawn to get rid of fleas. I have never done it because we don't have many fleas where I live but I see it mentioned in a ton of posts. Although, they all mention not to get it in kitty's eyes, nose, or mouth so given the location of the offending spot that may be dangerous.....

I think the dawn dish soap should be safe, I have been told by other rescuers that it is ok if it gets in their mouth or eyes. I am sure when they use it to clean animals from oil soils they have.to use it on their heads right. If you want something more mild that you can wash him with that won't hurt his eyes you can use baby shampoo. I use it if I have kittens that need a bath for whatever reason, and my vet has said it was fine.

I used their kitten shampoo.... I'm too scared to use Dawn or any other chemicals that close to his eyes/mucousal/ears

I think I am just going to let it grow out. I can always add a touch of red at Christmas ;)

Smokie is allergic to perfumes & dyes as well, I know Dawn has blue dye in it.

I'm pretty sure Dawn comes in a clear type. And they use it for oil spill animal victims because it's so gentle so I can't see it hurting him.

I may pick some up and try it. Does it have to be dawn brand?

Nebula, do not attempt this until you are sure it won't hurt your cat.  Since the paint is on the cats head, you need to talk to somebody who knows for certain what the outsome will be.  It may be too irritating to put on his head and risk getting in the eyes.  I put this out as a suggestion, not the gospel and I really don't know.  So you need to do your research before you use anything that could get in your cats eyes. I was hoping someone else had done this.  Again, don't do it until you know.  Ask your vet too.

Once those water-based paints dry, they can be very persistent.  There ARE chemicals that could get it off, probably, but you wouldn't want to use them on your cat.  I would use them only if there was a very real chance of the cat ingesting a toxic paint.  Once latex or acrylic paint has dried, it's pretty innocuous.

Okay....

I spoke to the vet who said basically, let it grow out or trim it. No chemicals are going to be acceptable, even dish soap.

They said if I let mineral oil soak on it, it might help - but-- it didn't.

So the reality is, I have a green headed cat. When the photo shoot comes, I am going to put a package bow.......... on each of their heads :)

Like this, See............... I can make this work to our advantage lol... :)

Awww, he wanted to dye his hair. XD
Maybe put a little red ribbon around his neck, hehe. Or have someone stand behind him wearing a green sweater--then if anyone asks you can say it's just an image artifact. ;)

We've used Dawn a tiny bit in the past... for this one cat Daisy, who was too fat to lick herself very much and would get this oily stripe on her back. But that was only in very small amounts, and only down the midline of her back, which she couldn't reach anyways. Not sure I'd use it on an animal's head... I know wildlife rehabbers use it eg. for oil-slicked birds, but I've always been careful not to get it in my own eyes, so I can't say from experience how gentle it is. :p

Make sure you ad an image and your story to catshaming.com
Many will get a kick out of this.
A lot of the members on the site have a real problem with catshaming.com because of the negativity in a lot of the posts, since a lot of them are thinly veiled insults like "look at my dumb little cat and what he did with his tiny little brain." Just letting you know so you aren't surprised when you tell someone they should post there and they refuse or say they don't like that site.
