my cat was probably taken in by someone... how to find that person and get Kiti back?

Hi dear all,

my cat has been missing for more than 3 months (the story is in the tread "lost cat - spotted - how to lure him back"; the spotted cat was not Kiti..). I have come to the conclusion (after putting out kitty buffet with camera for months and after having physically searched (I do it every evening) the neighborhood in 2-3 km radius for months) that he is either dead or someone has taken him. No-one has seen him, except our neighbor twice in the first weeks of his disappearance, next to our house. The person who found him and took him in can be entirely nice, but they must be keeping Kiti indoors, otherwise he would have already come home.

Kiti is microchipped, it means that no-one has taken him to the shelter or to the vet either. Or the person didnt mention to the vet that they found the cat in the street.

I feel so desperate as if there was no hope to see Kiti again!

Any suggestion is highly appreciated!

I plan to print flyers and direct mail them to the nearby villages, but I not sure how the text should be. If the family who has him has no interest giving him back I'd like to incite neighbors who might see him to call me, so I will add the word reward.

I will also go to vets (there are 200 of them in our small country) and hand them also a flyer asking them to scan a white cat when someone brings him in. Actually the vets option seems the most promising.

I wish I could give you words of reassurance, but a lost kitty is sometimes the hardest to bear - more so than a kitty who passes away - because the hardest part is never knowing.

What I can do is tell you the story of my friend's cat who escaped from their house one day and went missing for a long while. She had put up flyers around her neighborhood and everything with no luck. Then one day as she was taking a walk around her neighborhood, she saw her kitty sitting in the window of a nearby house. She knew it was her kitty right away because of the markings. They had put a collar on the kitty and everything. My friend knocked on the door and found out the little girl of the house had found the kitty and wanted to keep it. So the parents let her keep it. My friend had to explain that it was really her lost cat they had and showed them pictures to prove it. She was able to take her cat back home, and even told the little girl she could come visit. But the shocking part of the story was that the parents never thought to take the kitty to the vet to check for diseases, get it vaccinated, or even check for a chip. Some folks just don't consider the seriousness of taking in a stray nor realize the responsibility they have to such an animal.

I don't want to give you false hope, and I don't want to tell you to start peering into your neighbor's windows. However, I don't want you to give up if you still think there is a chance of finding him. I truly hope you have a change in luck and find your baby soon!

Aw I am so sorry you still have not found your dear Kiti. I really think that contacting all the vets in the area and give your cat's picture and microchip # is a really good idea. Problem with that, unfortunately, is that rarely do vets scan a cat when an owner is bringing in a pet cat for shots. They just assume it is their cat. So you have talked with this neighbor, the one you think might have Kiti? That would be so sad if they do, in fact, have your cat and do not return him to you. I can imagine the unsettling feeling you must have inside not knowing what happened to Kiti. I do hope that you will soon find out for sure if these people have your cat or not. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
