I have been getting so many different opinions on my one kittens odd noise. I also have been getting differing opinions on taking them to the vet. Some say to be positive before I go because they could catch something. Some have even told me to let nature take it's course. But I just want to know. I lost a cat a month ago and I can't bear loosing one of these kittens especially if it is something I could have prevented. One has been making an odd noise. Mouth open when she does it. I have a video. Not sure if it is a cough. She is gaining weight a little bit slower and she is small but she has always been the smallest. Even at birth. I watch them feed sometimes and notice she gets knocked out of the way a lot. So without intervening too much I have been making sure I see her feeding. Which she does do. She also sleeps perfectly. I never hear the noise whens he sleeps which is why I thought it wouldn't be a cold because why would it stop just because shes sleeping. She actually seems to be doing it less and less now but still am worried!

I also have another kitten who I think may be having seizures? Not sure if it's possible. I took a video of what she does when she sleeps (I think she's sleeping) - she kind of wobbles her head in a weird way. Sometimes yelps while doing it. When I took the video she was doing it worse than I ever saw. She wasn't awake. Her whole head kept twitching. She wet herself in my hands. I know maybe I somehow stimulated her or she stimulated herself. But it was pretty scary. I see them sleep and sometimes they do dream a lot and kick their legs and move their mouths but this was really extreme. Was it just a bad dream?? Or is it possible she could have a seizure. I'm not sure how crazy their dreams can get. I see them all do weird things while sleeping but this just seemed really dramatic.  Any advice would be great. If anyone is positive it's not normal please tell me. I know twitching for them and dreaming is normal but one again this seemed really intense. I added a video to be sure. Afterwards she was pooped by her mom and still seemed to be stuck in this sleep, she woke up for a few before going to sleep. Any help or anything please please please. I am having the hardest time keeping calm and also leaving them alone. I know I should but I'm very nervous something will go wrong or I'll do something wrong and I'll feel bad. I have backed off a lot but I'm still worried over every little thing! Aurora is a stray I took in when I found out she was pregnant, just FYI. I already have homes for a few of them. Just afraid to jinx it and something happen. I know kittens can go quick. I have links to both videos. Please Please plaese take a look!!

I really just want to know if it's normal. Or if it's time to get them all to the vet. Or if I'm doing something bad, anything!! Thank you all so much! It's really scary dealing with new life. To some people they might just be cats but to me their new life. They are alive and I can't bear to know that one of them may be suffering or have something wrong with them. It's the reason I found Aurora, I feed every cat that crosses my path include many "regulars". I hate to see any animal suffer or go hungry. Thanks in advance.

 kitten dreaming??

 kitten noise?

They are 11 days old. All gaining weight. Eyes opening. Feed constantly. Sleep well. See paw pads now. Hair all over legs. From a quick glance they seem to be great. My 2 bigger ones are exellent. The 2 in the videos are the smallest, always have been. Also Mommas girls

The noise sounds like a cough, or breathing issue. I would never let a kitten suffer and let nature takes it's course, even if you just vet them to be humanely put to sleep it's far kinder (not saying this kitten needs to be pts). Antibiotics should help if it's a uri, and all kittens plus mum need treating.

The shaking kitten is not normal in my experience. I'd get them all vet checked.

With that first video, I just wonder...  Epilepsy, maybe?  I would certainly have it checked by a vet, if you can.

I agree Jenelle it's time for the whole fam to take a trip to the vets. I know you are worried that they will pick something up while there, but at this point I think it's worth the risk. Both are things I have never encountered so I can't really comment. It's better to err on the side of caution and take them in and have nothing be wrong than to keep waiting and have it be too late to act.

Please let us know what the vet says!

Thank you so much - yeah I think I am going to take them all to the vet. Just to be on the safe side. They are all doing well in everything else, but I don't want any surprises so I am keeping an eye on them as I always do and will make an appointment tomorrow. I swear I have 4 little fighters! Aurora is also the best mommy too, she can't stand to hear any meows from them. When should they start coming out? They stay in their box with Aurora but when can I expect them to start exploring more? They all have eyes open and are trying to walk. Nervous about what steps come next.

They are right on schedule if they all have their eyes open. In the next week or two you will see their ears start to unfold. I usually see them really start to try and climb out between 2-3 weeks. Around 4-5 weeks they may start to get an interest in wet food (but 6 weeks is okay too). As soon as they take that interest it's time to start litterbox training as once they start on solids Aurora won't want to eliminate them anymore! From there on it's a lot of fine tuning their eating, litterbox habits, and play behaviors.

Enjoy these last few days of quiet and finish any kitten proofing you need to do before they really get moving!

I'm so glad you have decided to take them. I hope they are all alright and can't wait to hear an update!

Sorry I had forgotten about this but you may find this link helpful as you try and get an idea of when they will start doing what: it's under the "important kitten care links" on the pregnant cats and kitten care main page.

Thank you very much for the advice and the link!

Right now Luna who had the cough is doing much better. Her cough is almost completely gone. I noticed it happens when she is feeding, I think she may be feeding too fast and trying to catch her breath. She goes in HARD when she is hungry so I think that could be it. She IS tiny and must tinier than the biggest one, but her fur is getting thick and fluffy, got hair on her legs, paw pads, eyes opening (one's been stuck but I've dabbed it with water) and she sleeps great. I am keeping an eye on her of course but right now nothing dire is going on. She even tried walking today OUT of the box so that was a big deal!! As for Venus and the weird movement/seizure - I had someone else look at it, they think she was just looking for her mothers nipple combined with a dream. Not sure if I buy that, but same as Luna everything is GREAT for Venus. Growing, feeding, very very playful and starting to walk. Nothing seems to be stunting these guys. I think Luna is just tiny, she always has been since birth she was the smallest. I am totally keeping an eye on them. Probably watching them too much but I can't help myself. I lost a cat recently and I don't want anything to happen to these guys. I have some cat contacts that are local that keep telling me to stay away from the vet as nothing seems like it's an emergency. But I think I am going to try and go Saturday. I need some peace of mind. I read if I'm stressed Aurora will be stressed and so will the babies. If Luna DOES have a cough I want to know so I can treat it!! I just want them all to have a once over. Just to make sure they all seem like they are healthy and where they should be! I never did this before so I don't know if my biggest kitten is too big, or if he is supposed to be that big. Ya kno, I don't know any of this. I know it can also differ from type of cat, or Luna could just be a tiny girl and Nova could just be a big girl. Ya know it's hard and I worry a lot. So I would like the vet to tell me they are OK and where they should be. But I am keeping an eye on them for now. Like I said Luna's cough is almost non existent. Venus hasn't had that episode since. Luna's eye keeps shutting but I read information from here and other sites that say if it's not green or pussy it's OK. So I'm just dabbing it twice a day with warm water. When it opens she looks perfectly fine. .The eye doesn't look like it was damaged or anything.

Thank you again!!!

I ended up taking my first litter in to the vet for exactly this reason. I just wasn't sure and I didn't want anything bad to happen. It is always better to err on the side of caution. My main "picking illness up at the vet" concern is when kittens are first born. It's very stressful for Mom and they haven't received the necessary antibodies yet. Now that they are almost two weeks they have started to build up an immune system (not much but some). Just keep them in their carrier covered with a blanket at all times except when the vet is examining them and don't let Aurora run around the room. That will minimize any cross contamination. Also, did all these people go to the same vet? Maybe you should try another!

Yes if there is no inflammation or discharge it should be fine. Don't keep putting water on it she will open them all the way when she's ready! Kittens go at their own pace- some do things early, some "on time" and some later than the others. I had one in this litter who didn't open his eyes until 20 days. His vision seems fine and he "tracks" normally. It just took him awhile longer than the others. I can't imagine she enjoys her eye bath so if it's not necessary then there is no need to put her through that!

Then you need to take her to the vet, the chances of catching something are small unless your vet is very unhygienic in their cleaning practices? in which case I'd be finding another.

You're far better off getting a proper diagnosis and treating it
