I came up with this extremely "raw" idea/concept of starting some kind of foundation that I could create, and have it be in memory of my cat Johnny who has recently passed away. I know next to nothing about anything at all relating to this. Maybe you guys could lend a hand? What I had in mind that I would do is start an online shop or something that sells pet related items that I made. Then donate probably 75% of the profits to either my local vet's office (I love them with all my heart) or a local cat/animal sanctuary after I've checked them out and gotten to know them. Does anyone know how I can do this "legally". You know, not just saying "hey buy this, I donate money". I want this to be a legit thing that people can feel proud about supporting it.

Also my biggest concern is that I'm on SSI and I know they want to be aware of my "income". Since this wouldn't truly be income (donating most of it, using the other 25% for materials and fees) how would I go about that? I have no idea where to even research this, any input would be great. :)

I think the first thing you need to do is research how to set up a non-profit organization. I know the application/approval process can take a long time. Think in terms of months or years rather than weeks. You should be able to find information at irs.gov to get you started. You may eventually need a lawyer or tax specialist to help you get everything in order.

Good luck with your foundation.
