We went out tonight to an Italian restaurant.  It has a Japanese restaurant right next door.  When we pulled up, a tabby cat was pawing at the door, trying to get in.  I opened the door and asked them if she is their cat, but they said no.

But I don't believe them.  Cats don't spend that much time (almost an hour) pawing at a door they're not used to going in through.

It would probably be a health department violation.  But would you eat at a restaurant that you knew had a cat?
Wouldn't phase me a bit.  I eat with them at home, eating in a restaurant with one wouldn't bother me.  I used to take my dogs to a local restaurant until the health department put an 86 on dogs in restaurants city wide.  But I could still take them to the local tavern and let them sit on the bar stools right next to me

I guess I'm the minority here, I would rather there not be any animals in restaurants that I'm eating at.
I agree with you.

While I obviously have cats at home, I know they are in good health. I also wouldn't want strange cat fur in my food, I don't have fur in my food at home so I wouldn't want to be paying for it.

I would be unhappy to find any hair (human or animal) in my food.

That wasn't the question.

Yes, I would eat at a restaurant that has resident cats and/or other pets.

Yes I would.  I used to work in a restaurant where the owner sometimes brought her dog in.  Didn't bother most people, but I can remember one couple walking in the door, seeing him, and walking right back out.

the cat in the dining room wouldn't bother me, but i'd like to know it was not in the kitchen during food prep or upon the tables....i expect that much of my own cat.....and am paying for this meal so I'l expect even better

I could see it being strange under certain environments. More fancy dinner type places vs cafe, breakfast/lunch layed back environment. BUT I wouldn't see the problem (as long as there were no fleas!)

So would I  - I love cats and it wouldn't deter me from eating at a restaurant if they had a cat or two. After all, I eat at home with mine nearby.

It wouldn't bother me in the least. I probably would be paying more attention to the cat than I would the food.
