Would you eat at a restaurant that had a cat?

We went out tonight to an Italian restaurant.  It has a Japanese restaurant right next door.  When we pulled up, a tabby cat was pawing at the door, trying to get in.  I opened the door and asked them if she is their cat, but they said no.

But I don't believe them.  Cats don't spend that much time (almost an hour) pawing at a door they're not used to going in through.

It would probably be a health department violation.  But would you eat at a restaurant that you knew had a cat?

I would be MORE likely to eat at a restaurant that had a cat, even if it was inside the place.  After all, I eat at home and I have 5.

My paternal grandparents (when they were alive) lived in Rhode Island. They ate out every night, and had a different restaurant for every night. And when we visited they took us, of course. One restaurant they went to (and I have no idea if it was in Rhode Island or Massachusetts. . .they all run together up there) had a Siamese who lived there, and went around to every table greeting the guests. It was a well-known restaurant, the presence of the cat was used as a draw, and I assume the health department knew about the cat. So I don't know what the rules are. Anyway, a restaurant cat would have to be well-behaved, not jumping on the tables or stealing food, etc. I wouldn't pay to eat with my cats "helping"! :tongue2:

I think a restaurant having some cats patrolling during off-hours to keep the rodents out is an excellent idea. Better cats than rats!

I'm thinking I'd rather have the cats than the poisons most restuarants have out to control common pests.

Since most of our meals at home probably have the odd cat hair in them, it wouldn't bother me at all. Some restaurants around here turn a blind eye to people bringing their (non-service) dogs, and I've never heard anybody complain. A restaurant cat probably also wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Well, as I said, this is a Japanese restaurant. We've never eaten there, but they have a good reputation.  But I know in Japan, cat restaurants are fairly common.

I recently read that a "cat cafe" like the ones in Japan has opened in Vienna, and somebody wants to open one in Berlin.

Yes, as long as it was on the floor walking around and I could keep an eye on it.

I wouldn't be worried as long as the cat was still there after I'd finished my meal! :lol3: Oh that's terrible...

What's that saying? "Around here, cat hair is a condiment!" Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I guess I'm the minority here, I would rather there not be any animals in restaurants that I'm eating at. I'm allergic to cats and dogs, even though I have my own. I have worked hard to build up a tolerance to my own pets, and while I don't mind going into a shop that has pets in it, I would prefer not to have them around a place where I'm going to be sitting for an hour or more, eating. If I wanted hair in my food, I'd eat at home or McDs, lol.

I wouldn't mind a pet friendly coffee house/cafe. Generally, there things are made first thing in the morning and packaged right away, then kept in a display cooler. Animals aren't allowed access to the kitchen and are kept at front of house.

I wouldn't mind, as long as the cat has manners (not getting in my food) or stays out of the kitchen!

I wouldn't mind at all. I actually would probably go out of my way to go there often if the food was good :)
