Hi - been fighting the flea wars all week and it seems we are turning a corner in the battle. The only thing I am still concerned about is that my smallest cat with the fleas allergy still has  scabbing and sores on his neck from the initial attack. Should I make another vet visit for the vet to prescribe a topical treatment/antibacterial/anitbiotic or is there something safe I can put on him to help him heal?  He doesn't seem bothered by them and is not scratching at himself, it just feels gross to pet him. I have not noticed or smelled any kind of discharge or excessive swelling, so I am thinking he doesn't have an infection.

If he needs to see the vet, I will find the funds. But if I could avoid the expense so close to the last it would help out alot.

Is he on a flea treatment now? If there are no new sores forming and he is leaving them alone and they are not full of pus or draining, I would just give them time to heal. I wouldn't put anything on them if he is leaving them alone. You'll just have to get over your squeamishness :) and keep petting him anyway. Wash your hands after, to make yourself feel better. :)

Yes, he is on Capstar and got his first of his monthly doses of Frontline Plus (DID NOT WANT!), and I do not think they are getting worse. I still give him his lovvies, I just don't try to get near the scabs so I don't irritate them or make him itchy, just in case. He is the most affectionate cat ever, and wants lots of attention. As for the squeamish factor, you are right, I will just flea comb him (carefully) to get the crud out of his fur and get over myself. I always make sure I have clean hands before and after I deal with any of the cats right now in order to insure I am inadverently spreading flea dirt or eggs.

Fleas are such an ordeal, but I am grateful that there so many better treatments now than the last time I had to deal with it (over thirty years ago). And my apartment has never been cleaner...
