Before anyone panics, it was NOT life-threatening or a sarcoma! :lol3:

He got his first adult vaccines yesterday simultaneously: rabies and the combo. Both were PureVax. He got them at 2:30pm.

He was fine until about 9pm. Then I noticed he wasn't snoozing in the living room like he usually is at this time. I called him a few times, thinking he might be napping on the bathroom rug. No Bootsy wandered out. I figured I'd let him sleep.

Then around ten, I went to put their food in the bowl.... no Boots. He always comes running. I knew something was up then, so I went and searched for him. He was under the shoe rack in my closet, doing the in-pain/nauseated meatloafing thing, and he was breathing SO FAST. :bawling:

He hadn't thrown up as far as I could tell. But his breathing really worried me. I counted 80 breaths a minute! (Normal for an adult cat is 16-40). I tried to take his temperature, but he was alert enough to struggle away. His gums were pink, too.

As a last test, I opened a can of tuna. No interest. :jaw:

So I called the emergency vet, relayed the symptoms, and they said, "Well, maybe bring him in." No idea on whether or not he was in immediate danger. :sigh:

Then I went to justask and got a cat vet to talk to. She calmed me down almost immediately. :) She said since he was just a bit lethargic and breathing fast, it was probably fever or pain from the vaccine (which causes the breathing thing), and that he would almost certainly be fine unless he started showing other symptoms. Since I asked specifically about the breathing, she said 80 was high, but not into respiratory-distress levels.

So I went to bed and slept uneasily, checking on him every so often. He continued his pattern. The next morning he seemed better, but I still called my normal vet, and they said he would be fine. :) I've monitored his breathing throughout the day, and it's gotten better, although as of now it's still a little faster than normal. He's much more alert and isn't walking so stiffly anymore. No more meatloafing. :bigthumb:

Anyway, that's the story of Boots' vaccine drama. I definitely will wait as long as possible before getting him his next round.... they make him miserable. :(

Hope it helps someone here. :greenpaw:
