Advice / Guidance Please

Hi, My 4 month old kitten got her tail caught in the hinged part of a door as it was closing this morning. I was holding her looking towards the handle part of the door when she managed to get her tail in the hinged part of the door. I think she just got a bit pinched as when the door didnt close and she hissed wanting down, I let her onto the floor. After being very distressed and vocal about her pain she eventually calmed down so that I could check her over with the help of a few treats. She seems a bit in shock.. (I was aswell as I was holding her at the time) There doesn't seem to be a break, any bleeding, nor hair /skin gone. I know she was shook up and I'm worried if she is ok (I am unable to take her to a vet at present due to financial restraints) I also worry that this will change her relationship and love for me, if mentaly she believes I have hurt her.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Concerned Mom x

Ouch, l can feel the pain for her, but sadly accidents happen so don't beat yourself up.

How does she seem now, and can you stroke her back and up her tail no problem?

She won't hate you. Just give her lots of attention and she'll be fine with you

Tail breaks can be more serious than they appear. There could be serious damage under the skin and fur. I would plan ahead for a vet visit if you see any signs that she has not fully recovered. Limpness at the end of the tail, or the kitten attacking the tail, or the kitten hiding away are all signs that medical attention is needed.

Start saving an emergency fund. Pets get sick or have accidents all the time. You really need to have something put by in case. :)

Agree with Otto especially so if the pinch is towards the anus area.

And cats use their tail more than just communicating to us their state of mind.

She'll probably be okay, especially since she's so young.
My mom/family has a cat named Rusty that was rescued from a hoarder. Because of the cramped conditions, his tail was broken in 3+ places over the years. It hasn't affected him at all. He's a giant cuddlebug and has no problems balancing.
With that in mind, I would try to get her at least some pain meds from the vet because if it is broken, that's hotta Hurt.

Aww, I hope she is feeling better, & calmed down. I do agree w/ the others as to save a little fund for emergencies etc..  I have had to deal w/ financial issues as well, & totally understand. That said, If you really needed to, you could apply for Care Credit at the Vet's office. I know that helped me A LOT last month when Angel had a bladder infection & a little cystitis. He had to stay at the Vet's for 2 nights, ('till he peed on his own)  ultrasounds, X-Rays etc.. then was sent home w/ 3 meds & a bag of Sub Q fluids! Yea, about  $463.00 later..........

(but even at that amount payments are only 25.00/mo. , but am doubling, as not to pay the high interest!!)

Good luck , I hope all is well. Keep us posted!
