Just thought I would post this for those that buy their pet food on line... Doggiefood.com... I always buy pet food on line, but will only do so if there is free shipping + discounts. Doggiefood.com offers free shipping over $50, PLUS they offer 15% off of your first order with no limit. Another website that I order from offers 15% off but at a maximum of $15.

Sooo... My $240.45 order came out to $204.38 and included free shipping. Here is what I ordered:

Before Grain 96% Quail & Chicken 24/5.5 oz cans                                  1   29.50 ($1.23 per can before 15% off)

Before Grain 96% Beef 24/5.5 oz cans                                        1   29.50 ($1.23 per can before 15% off)

***VALUE SIZE*** Nature's                                        1    9.99
Variety Instinct Dog
Biscuits with Duck Meal,
Sweet Potatoes, and
Cinnamon - 21 oz

Earthborn Holistic Primitive Naturals Grain Free Dog food 28 lb                                  1   47.99

Nature's Variety Instinct  Canned Dog Food, Chicken 12/13.2 oz cans                                         1   30.99 ($2.58 per can before 15% off)

Evo 95% Venison Dog Food 12/13.2 oz cans                                                                 1   29.99 ($2.50 per can before 15% off.)

Fromm Four Star Nutritionals Duck and Chicken cat food 12/5 oz cans                             1   25.99 (Yikes... But her fav.)

Wellness Canned Turkey Recipe 24/5.5 oz cans                                               1   36.50 ($1.52 per can before 15% off.)

Sorry for the haphazard display... I copy/pasted my order receipt.

P.S I am in no way affiliated with this website. In fact, I order from many different websites dependent upon the coupons they have left out. I am simply another frugal girl who likes to help out others!!

Also, no sales tax (but dependent upon state.. I am in Florida.)

Thanks for posting the link.

With the first time customer 15% discount, it would be worth ordering from them... once anyway.

For comparison, I added a typical order to my cart at both PetFoodDirect and DoggieFood:

3 cases of Wellness GF cans,

3 cases of Natural Balance Platefulls,

3 cases of Innova Cat & Kitten cans

1 bag of Innova Cat & Kitten dry

Total at DoggieFood was $249.41

Total at PFD (on Auto Ship*) was $228.16,

for a net savings of $21.25 at PetFoodDirect,

despite having to pay for shipping (included above) at PFD.

* AutoShip may be changed, delayed or cancelled at any time with no hassle and no penalty.

When it comes to those particular products, I am sure that is a great value. However, I do not feed those foods. In comparison, I did exactly what you did and added the products into a cart at Pet Food Direct, the same ones that I bought at Doggie Food and instead of spending $204, my cart came out to $292.45.... My shipping cost alone was $42.53... That would buy 1 1/2 cases of food.

So I think it depends on what products you buy. Even without the 15% coupon at Doggie Food, my order would have been less than on Pet Food Direct. As mentioned in my first post, I never shop at one website. I always go to whoever has the best deals. But I refuse to EVER pay for shipping.. Even if the costs are slightly more, at least I am paying for food and not shipping.

It really is interesting.

We really should try to come closer to an "apples to apples" comparison...

Mentioning PFD's pre-discount price along with DoggieFood's post discount price is hardly a fair comparison.

You are only able to use the 15% New Customer Discount at DoggieFood one time,

whereas the AutoShip discounts at PFD are for use on every purchase.

Along those lines, you did not subtract the PFD AutoShip Discounts, which are typically 15% or 20%, depending on the product.

At an average discount of 17.5%, your discount at PFD would be approximately $51.18,

which would drop your total to $241.27, compared to the pre (one time) Discount ** price of $240.45 at DoggieFood.

** As I mentioned before, with the 15% New Customer Discount, it is worth ordering from DoggieFood.

The recurring order diference in price is less than $1.00, despite "paying" a line item charge for shipping.

At DoggieFood or anywhere else that advertises "Free Shipping" you are still paying

for shipping in the price of the items you buy, as the shipping charge comes out of their margin,

rather than them offering a deeper discount on the items. PFD could easily do "Free Shipping"

instead of the Auto Ship discounts... it would end up being nearly the same total price and profit margin.

In any case, it pays to compare

Thanks again for sharing - I'm sure many of us can save some money with DoggieFood's New Customer Discount.

Once you're signed up with Doggiefood, they e-mail you a coupon code every few days (make sure you set up an account, don't just check out as a guest!). It's never less than 10% and is currently 15%. So it isn't just a one-time discount. I order from them all the time, just made an order in fact. I once ran my order on every single pet food site I could find and DF came out with the best price :tongue2:. The discount was more than $50 on my last order (why, yes, I do make very large orders :anon:).

The brands I feed are cheaper on DF than PFD (Friskies is $24.49 a case at DF, $29.49 at PFD), so plus the discount and free shipping, DF is always cheaper for me. I sometimes order (other brands, not Friskies) from PFD if I get a free shipping code, but you can't use the autoship discount with a free shipping code. And their shipping is always ridiculously high for me, like $100. . .I wonder if it's based on distance. It's always far more than the discount comes to. And I'm cranky that their free shipping code only works for up to 60 pounds . I just ordered some Felidae from them but could only get 5 12-packs under the free ship code.

Anyway, I'm always trolling the pet food sites looking for deals. Those are the only 2 I've actually ordered from (besides some dog food from Amazon) because all of the others were more expensive. But I still check them anyway :lol3:.

Yay! If that is the case then they will definitely be my go to pet food people. They beat all the local deals on the foods that we buy as well as the deals I find online... They must go buy weight+distance because I was shocked at the $43 shipping I was quoted.. but $100?! That is disgusting.

It is embarrassing how much time I spend looking at pet food sites

But anyways my main goal for posting this was just to let people know that you can save serious money on necessities. The moral of the story is to compare, compare, compare! Lol.

Thanks Willowy - now that definitely makes it worthwhile!

I assume you are happy with DF's quality of packing and shipping speed?

I noticed that Blue Buffalo is less on DF, while Innova and Wellness are cheaper on PFD.

I'll likely do a big order on DF to take advantage of the 15% New Customer Discount,

then order from both sites depending on who has the best price for each brand that I buy.

With "my" 5 Kitties, plus 3 Fosters and a Feral colony,

I don't mind to use 2 suppliers if it will save me some money

I will say that a few times, the order took a while getting there. I wouldn't order from them if I really needed the food quickly. But. . .free shipping :D. And 1500 miles. I won't complain.

Once, some things were backordered and I had to e-mail to remind them to send them. But that was back when they first started and I think there were kinks that needed to be ironed out---I haven't had any trouble since. And any time you send heavy stuff like canned cat food, the boxes are going to get a bit battered. But it's never anything worse than a couple dented cans. And that was a while ago, too--my most recent orders were packed in cornstarch peanuts so no denting. I think they're learning as they go. And if you have to e-mail them, their customer service is excellent and they'll fix the problem for you.
