Thank you! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

He stayed on the cerenia for about 10 days, then made it clear he didn't want it any longer (he hid until it was time for breakfast, avoiding being pilled. :lol3: ). I did give him a 2nd appetite stimulant, but none after that. (So his appetite was boosted for 6 days artificially).

He's back to just the pred and pepcid. :) AND he SEEMS to be doing really well!   He doesn't seem nauseous any longer. :D

Something still seems a little "off," because he will sniff and sniff and sniff at his food, and not necessarily eat it. BUT, on a recommendation, we bought him temptations treats. These things are tiny - but he loves them. It just takes 2 or 3 crumbled onto his food to get him to dig in. :D But this is a big improvement, because for a while there we had to use almost a whole packet of Fortiflora to get him to eat most of a meal.

He's eating about an ounce of his food at each meal consistently. Sometimes he will finish. :D (He gets 1.3oz per meal, three meals a day). He's asking for treats between meals once or twice a day (NOT like when he was on the appetite stimulant - he asks for treats like every 30-40 minutes on that. ).

But overall, he seems to be doing MUCH MUCH better now! He's grooming immediately after a meal again; he's bouncy and happy.

So either it was a passing virus that didn't give him a fever, or ... ???? :dk: But through all of this there's been no vomiting, which I take as a VERY good sign! :cross: :D

Oh my goodness, Laurie! Where have I been? I missed this thread about your darling Lazlo. I'm so happy to read that he's doing pretty well now...that was a huge relief!

Lazlo, you keep on feeling better every day, sweet boy.

And for you both, many healing vibes
, prayers, and love coming your way!!!

P.S. I've always called it the "meatloaf" position--it may have started with kitties that have CKD because they do this a lot.

Well some not-so-happy news. :(

It looks like stopping the sucralfate was a bad idea. I woke up this morning to a.rather large pile of hairballs. About 4" from it was what I can only describe as a "string" of fresh blood, and a reasonable amount of it.

So either Lazlo has bleeding ulcers, or someone else has a problem. And the odds of that are...? Pretty low, right?

The odd thing about this is that before, Lazlo never threw up fresh blood. The one time he threw up blood, it was dark, and looked like coffee grounds. In fact, it was that description that enabled the vet to tell me it was blood.

So back on sucralfate he goes, and for a week, I'll give him Yunnan Baiyao every-other-day, not every three.

I'm so glad to hear that Lazlo has bounced back to his normal self. Good thing he has such a caring and attentive owner to look after him so well! :heart3:

OH SWEETIE!!!!!!!!!! I was beaming with SMILES at catching up and then my smile turned to a frown... :nervous: I will continue to keep those healing vibes coming Lazlo's way. I am also going to assume that hairball vomit with blood was Lazlo's. The good news... that hairball is out!!!!! Maybe that was causing a lot of these symptoms recently. Keeping you and Lazlo smack dab in the middle of my heart day and night. :heart3: :rub: :heart3: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

VERY interesting. Now, you will get my 2cents.gif. Panda, my DLH, that is terminally ill, and, was supposed to die, way, over a year and a half ago, has this same issue. NO vet knows why. She will also, sometimes, throw up red blood first and 30 mins or less later, vomit up a ton of hair balls. My, DLH, throws up, way more then a "string of blood". It is like pools of blood, with hairballs in it. Sometimes however, it is the blood first. Then, with in, 30 mins the hair comes. If, you are wondering, how, I know it is her, it is simple. She is always hidden, unless Loki, my F3 Savannah is near her, or one of my kids and or myself. She is terrified, of my "normal cats", husband, dogs and anyone else. Plus, I have watched, my DLH, do the above behaviors over the years. My vet has NO intentions, of trying to figure out why. I agree. She is perpetually terrified, of, people, intimate objects, going outside like my "normal cats" and life in general. So, we all agree, to not stress her out..
VERY interesting! Gary also thinks it is "something else" going on - because the bleeding ulcers make the dark coffee ground vomit.

AND.... I saw him have a bowel movement, and it was normal - NOT dark black, like when he had bleeding ulcers.

I have a call into the vet. I'm not sure if the sucralfate would help or not, if this is blood from his esophagus or something..... :dk: But it does not seem like there's abdominal bleeding.....

He also seems FINE. :dk: Happy, playful.... so HOPEFULLY that blood was in some way related to throwing up the hairballs... :cross: .... and it sure seems like having the hairballs out may be helping him feel better! :lol3:

Well, heck.  Just when we think things are going well, something else happens.  But this is just a tiny bump, I'm sure of it.  I think it's that hairball that did it, somehow.

(just in case)

Hi Laurie, remember in the beginning of my Toby thread, one of my cats was eating grass and threw up the grass with fresh blood- that never happened again and I don't think it was Toby.

I may be wrong but I think fresh blood is always a better sign than dark, if there has to be any at all :-(. Plus it came up with a ton of hairballs, not food. It could be that he over-groomed himself while he was feeling out of sorts

I looked this up online and it says it usually indicates a current bleed of the upper GI tract. It could indeed be that his ulcer resurfaced and that is why he was drooling,  because he felt nauseated.

I will pray for you and Lazlo. I think it is still good that he is otherwise eating normally. Also you mentioned stopping the sucralfate, I don't know when that happened but  anytime you are taking meds for stomach acid/reflux, when you stop them, there is a "rebound" effect that can be pretty intense, so maybe there is a connection there too.
