I searched and found a very short thread on stool size and I found too wide a variety of answers doing a google search, so I thought I'd ask here and hopefully get a clearer answer...

Some of you may remember my other thread about Parker having small, hard stools and being constipated. I've had him on Restoralax for a month now and its been good. His stool is well formed, not too dry or too soft...its the size I am wondering about. The majority of them are really long. Some have been up to 7 inches. RB Sami had very long stools her whole life but Buddy and well, most cats who's stool I've seen are on the shorter side. Is it ideal for them to be smaller or are the really long ones ok too?

7 inches sounds HUGE to me. I rarely see anything even 3" here.

Wow, what an interesting question. Have you asked your vet, or even the manufacturer? It would be good to know. I usually see 2 to at most 3 inches, and the 3-inch turds are usually after consumption of cat grass. Restoralax is 100% PEG, so it's not like it's adding fiber.

My vet is really annoying to get a hold of, so I haven't gone that route yet. I don't want her to ask me to bring him in anyway as my roommates car is out of commission for now and I have no other way to make the long journey there. (Unless there is something wrong and I need to take him). Although, its really got me curious, so I might have to try and get a hold of her.

I just don't know if I should be worried. Like I said, Sami had those same kind of long stools her whole life and was ok but she is the only other cat I've seen have them that long. They aren't all 7 inches, most are 3-5. 7 is just the longest ones I've noticed, they happen once, maybe twice a week. Aside from the length, they seem perfectly normal otherwise. They are smelly but I don't think they are any worse than they should be. (His dry stools had no smell at all, so any smell is new to me lol). Color and firmness are what I guess is considered normal.

He gets 1/8th tsp of the Restoralax in the morning and thats it. I tried to cut back a little on it to see if it helped the size and the next day he had trouble going and made a mess scooting down the hallway. Would it make a difference if I divided the Restoralax in 2 separate meals maybe?
Sorry for all the blabbering, I've just dealt with hard, tiny stools for so long, I don't know what I should have been expecting once I got the constipation under control.

So, does he just have one of these monsters at a time.  I think normally cats have two or three turds come out at the same time (sorry, don't know how else to say it
), so probably all together they would add up to that length.  My Sven was on Miralax (same thing just different name
?), and he often just had one long turd, but I don't think they were quite that long.  But I did compare them to cigars
(so maybe they were!)  His were very large around too
..I always thought "ouch!")

So maybe its just the RestoraLax (Miralax) that causes it. His aren't too wide, just long. Yeah, its usually just the only long one and that's it. Sometimes there are few smaller ones too. I guess its nothing to worry about if the consistency and color are ok. Good to know its not just Parker who is experiencing these lengthy poops lol.

Daisy tends to have longer turds than my other kitties, and she poops regularly.  Today she had one that was about 4" long.  I've never seen one that long, so I'm thinking this is a fluke, but she always has longer stools than my other 2.  What's fun is trying to figure out whose poop is whose in the box!  LOL
