G'day folks,

Today's question is about cell phones:

What kind of phone do you have?
Do you use it as a phone? Texting? Or is it your lifeline?

I've never had a cell phone and didn't get a land-line until I got married; I hate telephones! Of course, I had a phone growing-up, but as an adult, not 'till '95.

I have a blackberry torch. I normally use it mainly for texting, browsing the internet and playing games but lately I have been making some calls too.

I have a cheap touch screen Kyocera.  It is off mostly because I really only use it to call out if I need to.  I also use it to send a friend of mine text messages when we are planning to go out, or if we are shopping and have split up in a store, in order to be able to find each other. Other than that, I don't use the phone at all.

A HTC Rezound. Not so much my lifeline, but I use it for a lot because I'm always on the go!

I have a Samsung now since my old reliable packed it in. I don't want any kind of phone but got browbeaten into getting a cell in addition to the land line. Logically, I know I MUST have the cell, since I am alone here and may need help at some point, so I have pretty much trained myself to carry it everywhere. The only time I find it essential, however, is seeding and harvest time since I may have to help move stuff or go do something in the fields.

I have an HTC.  Didn't really want a smartphone.  But in Feb- I had to take my oldest on 3 different college tours, so dh got me one for my birthday.

I like it.  It's kind of fun to play on.  I use it for both a computer and a phone.

First cellphone we got was years ago, kids were still small, dh and I both had cars that were 60K+ in mileage, and I didn't like us being stuck somewhere with no way to contact.  That one was shared a while.

My dad passed away in '04.  We put mom on our plan.  Oldest was going on a school trip to Chicago, so we got her a "stupid phone" LOL.  She wasn't really happy- but it was a phone and she could talk on it.

Dh had 2 Blackberries, then upgraded to a Droid a year and a half ago.

And then last year, mom got herself a phone.  She gave us back her phone, and the youngest promptly took it LOL.  She was quite the happy camper.  Both of the girls' phones were having charging issues- so at Christmas, dh upgraded them to a smartphone plan.  They were happy
YDD found a free texting app so she's texting friends, the BF etc, etc.  Teenagers. They do use data.  But most of the time YDD is using her phone here so it's connected to wi-fi at home.  ODD has wi-fi access at school so her phone, iPod and laptop are all connected to the school's system. Works for me- we're paying enough in tuition

We're kind of stuck with them.  ODD is now 4 hours away at college, so the only way to get a hold of her is on her cell.  It would be SO nice if she got some sort of a job to pay for her phone.  YDD just got her learner's permit- wants to drive.  BAD.  Once we "set her free" she'll be driving the van with 125K miles on it- I don't like a 16 year old being out there without a phone.

I've approached dh with the idea of ditching our landline.  We got rid of long distance years ago.  We use cells to make our long distance calls- we get a ton of minutes- it's free on weekends.  The only phone calls the landline gets at this point are high school related/ telemarketing, and an occasional call that I don't want to deal with on my cell (like the business office at DD's school

That's why dh and I decided to add my mom onto our plan.  My sister and brother-in-law lived near her- but were taking their own sweet time getting her a phone.  Yeah- they were going through "stuff" and my father had gotten sick and passed away within a 6 month period.  But I didn't like my mom living in a house by herself- driving a car with a lot of miles on it- without a phone.

BIL talked her into an iPhone.
I think it's just WAY too much technology than she needs.  But at least she's keeping it on- that's normally how I call her, that number's programmed into my cell phone (and as I said above we make all of our long-distance calls from the cell).

A Motorola something or other.  Just use it for calls and taking pictures when I don't have my camera with me.  NO texting.  I had the texting blocked to my number about 4 years ago.

I just have a basic phone that I only use for emergencies or to call the house and check for messages. We don't get good cell phone reception where we live. Our land line is part of Comcast triple play (phone, cable and internet) and we have unlimited long distance so we use that for everything. My cell is just one of those AT&T pay as you go phones. No texting, camera, etc.

I use a tracfone.  It has prepaid minutes.  My hubby totes the real gizmo, smart phone dodad, which I can't operate too well.  Ony a few folks have my number.  I have told my kids don't call this number unless you really need your mama NOW.  It is only my phone, not my lifeline.  I don't know how to text.

I have a pretty basic phone.  I text on it but I don't do any web based stuff.  I would love a smartphone; but I'm not paying for any data packages.  At least it has a full slide out keyboard... hehe

I think I do rely on texting more than talking sometimes.  Like to talk to my mom when she is at work.  Or let DH know something.  It's easier than disturbing them from their jobs.

I have a HTC Thunderbolt. I use my phone for texting/internet A LOT more than I use it for calling people. But I'm not big on calling people anyway. I was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan before Verizon put limits on usage.

Right now it's making me want to run it over because I can't use it without it being plugged into a charger and VZW is being a pain in the butt about putting a battery in it or replacing the phone if the charging port is bad, ack. I miss being able to use it OFF a charger for more than 30 seconds!
