Hello to everyone reading this.

I am the new owner of a 9 week kitten. We got her at 8 weeks. She's a tabby and white and called Luna. She's beautiful, cute and playful.

After feeding her whiskas wet for kitten for a few days we found that her poo became darker and more loose. We called the vet who said to give her boiled chicken and wait for things to settle. I'm now at introducing the new food to her. It's pets at home advanced nutrition which my vet and the staff at pets at home all said was very good quality. It's rich in protein and has the right amount of fats and not mixed with fillers etc.

It says to give 40g of dry food to her so eventually that's 4x10g meals once she settles. I'm weaning her on to them now and I gave her very little dry food in with the chicken. She ate it all up but today she has gone back to diarrhea type stool. There's some farting and then watery stool then at the end a formed tube. Sorry for the info but I just need help. Am I giving her TOO much in one sitting. There must have been like 10 tiny nuggets of dry food in the first meal. Seemed hardly anything. Im scared she's going to die or get ill. I've never had a kitten or cat before so it's all new to me. I got so attached and did my research etc.

The poor kitty also has conjuctivitis too but that's kinda clearing up now.

Pleeeeease someone help me. Thank you for taking the time to read through and reply. It's so much appreciated :)

I would work on getting her healthy before changing food.  Has she been tested and treated for parasites?  It could be stress, meds, change in food, or parasites causing the diarrhea.  I'd let her get settled in your home well, get over the illness, then work on changing foods.

Is there any way you can put her on her original food? Not the Whiskas, but whatever they were feeding her at the shelter/home you got her from?
If that's not possible, keep her on the boiled chicken diet for another week before trying to switch her to a new food. Then instead of trying to switch her to a dry food that is hard to digest and only has a maximum of 35% protein, put her on wet food that is much less processed and have much more of the protein she needs to grow.

Well apparently she's been wormed etc by owners before. Then I was told not to do it for a while I case of over dose on worming stuff. Thing is she was on whiskas wet before hand. I can't find any wet food in the UK that is for kittens that has a decent protein etc. I'm so stuck and frustrated :( sages been on the chicken near enough a week already

But you've only had her for one week, so that means that the first couple days were Whiskas, next couple days were chicken and then at least yesterday/today was the Pets at Home food. Unless you've had her longer?

She has to be on the chicken for one solid week, no other treats, no other food in order to sort out her poop. As for the kitten food, the only difference between kitten and adult cat food is that the kitten food usually has more protein and/or fat. But if you find an adult food that is good quality, it will have the same or more protein as the kitten food would have, so it'll be fine to give to her. Don't forget that you can buy almost anything online. Hopefully some of our UK members will get on here and be able to suggest some wet foods. *hugs*

I third trying a high-protein canned kitten food. Are you familiar with zooplus? It's an online shop and has good kitten food such as Animonda Carny Kitten or Grau Gourmet Kitten with Turkey & Carrots which are both grain-free. There's also Schesir Kitten in Jelly, which is neither grain-free nor a complete kitten food, but can be given to add a little variety.

There are a lot of high-protein canned foods available online in the UK, though most of them are for adult cats.

I have to say ive been reading these threads without signing up and everyone on here has been so helpful. I'm
So glad I signe up now! Thank you all for putting me at ease. I've had her since 1st September so just over a week. I am going to keep her on the chicken. Would you suggest therefore that I do this for a week after the hiccup with me trying to change food too early? A few days into the chicken in the morning she would go the toilet and half would be loose and then have formed tubes like toothpaste. But in the evening they were firm. So I guess that's it just adjusting.

Also chicken makes her a little flatulent and a tiny bit constipated as she strains a little before but I was told that would expected with chicken

Thanks once again I really appreciate it :)

Yea, she needs to be on chicken for a solid week. So if yesterday you gave her Pets at Home, she'd need to be on it for a week starting today.
