Over the river and through the woods...
Libby, you and Dave are in my thoughts and prayers! I hate to hear news like this. The last labs sound great though!! Many
going out for both of you.

One question. Are you taking care of yourself? Being a primary caregiver is extremely hard and you need to take time for yourself to relax and regroup. Just make sure you are doing that. Please.

Thank you so much for asking about me
The first week after the first round of chemo, Dave told my family that this has been harder on me than it has on him.  I wouldn't go QUITE that far, but it was nice that he noticed.  I get out into my garden or go for a walk, and that gets my mind off things I'd really rather not think about and lets me clear my head.

I'll be a nervous wreck the next few days, I'm sure.  The port placement is scheduled for tomorrow morning.   Dave's last WBC count was 2K, down from 3.1K the week before.  I don't really know (and I forgot to ask), if the chemo is supposed to totally wipe out the WBC or just get them as low as possible.  They're below normal now, so infections are my biggest fear.  I keep telling myself, "you were a nurses' aide for years; you know what to look for and what to do".  It's just really, really different when it's someone you love.

Thanks again for the vibes coming to us.  I'll let you all know how things go tomorrow.  Wish us luck!

Thought I'd let you all know that the port placement went well, better than I'd hoped.  It will be put to use for the first time on Monday when Dave goes in for the first day of his second round of chemo.  I think the nurses will be delighted that he has one.

Apparently, the good wishes everyone has sent are doing the trick.  With any luck, there will only be 3 more rounds of chemo (could be 5 more, but I've got my fingers crossed)  Thanks again, everyone!

Round 2 was scheduled to start this past Monday.  After the labs came back, it was decided

Dave's immune system couldn't handle chemo at this point.  His WBC count was 2.5K; low-normal is 3.1K.  So, labs again next Monday; won't know anything until them.  On the plus side, his platelets had risen from 11.1 to 12.1; still too low but improving.  Yay!

Thanks, all!  Labs again tomorrow morning to see if we can start round 2.  Got my fingers crossed that this will be a chemo week.  Will keep you updated.

Apparently, Dave is somewhat abnormal.  Labs today were better, but things are improving too much, too quickly.  The "bad" numbers are vastly lower---yay.  The "good" numbers aren't keeping pace---they're improved, but not as big a difference as in the "bad" numbers.  The oncologist is comparing notes with an onc. at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis (supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the country).   They may cut the chemo from 5 days in a row to 3 days a week.  Dave had 2-drug chemo today, will have 1-drug chemo tomorrow, then will have labs and an appointment with the onc. to see how things are going.  Not really sure what all this means, to be honest.  Hopefully, the onc. will have some answers for us on Wednesday.

I guess since Dave might be abnormal by having such good blood test results....... then I hope he stays "abnormal" :lol3: Just wanted you to smile :). I think this sounds like really good news. Will be waiting to hear what the Onc. says Wednesday. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
